Friar's Lodge is a modern building in the medieval section of Kinsale. It's on a small street and should have been easy to find but wasn't - we had never been to Kinsale before and the Rick Steves maps are not the best. Plenty of off-street parking, which is a real plus in Kinsale. It is a short downhill walk to town.

Our room was really quite nice - more like a first class hotel. The inn has a elevator, the only one we saw in the whole country, almost. The room had a view of the town. I did not see any A/C which could be a problem in summer. We were there in fall. The bathroom was modern, there was a kettle with tea and coffee, even a few cookies.

Our room had an internet connection, but it was wired. I didn't bring the paraphernalia to connect my Macbook Air to a wired connection, so it was of no use. They have wi-fi on the ground floor in the reception area or in the dining room. Lots of guests hanging around. The wi-fi in the breakfast room only works away from the kitchen, not close to the kitchen.

The breakfast was good but not great. They had some mini-croissants and pain au chocolat, which were enjoyable, but one day the house was down and there were none. The cooked breakfast was a bit disappointing - warm food on a cold plate. You expect hot food in Ireland.

I would stay there again. I'd bring an ethernet cable though. This would be five stars if it had wi-fi in the room and truly hot breakfast.

It's really more hotel than B&B. If you are looking for the traditional experience of a B&B this isn't it.

I had a very nice stay at the Friars Lodge! Great location, easy walk to all the shops and restaurants in Kinsale, and the Farmers Market and the harbor.
My room was nice and large, bathroom fixtures were all very new, and everything was very clean.
The breakfast was very good, normal juice, fruit, yogurt, cereal buffet, plus a good selection of cooked to order breakfasts!
The reception area and sitting area were very pleasant with lots of reading material and nice views of Kinsale!
They have free wi-fi but during my two night stay they were having some problems with their internet connection,I was able to get connection in the reception area a couple times but it was out occasionally.

We stayed for 3 nights for the fabulous Kinsale food festival which was outstandingly good! Location is brilliant just 2 mins walk from town centre. Room was large and adequate, bathroom was very tired and in need of some tlc, towels were like cardboard. Breakfast was good and staff were friendly. The need for wifi became very annoying as it was supposedly available in the breakfast room, reception and at one desk on the first floor. This was only available in brief interludes and is unacceptable for business people at leisure who have to keep in touch with emails etc. At 100 euros per night I expect to have free wifi in my room. This was mentioned by other guests too, so come on Friars Lodge ....

Room Tip: Ask for rooms away from the street and archway - revellers on a weekend use it as a party zone.

The Friar's Lodge is a great find. A 4 star guest house located only 5 minutes from Kinsale Harbour is the perfect place to stay. The staff are friendly, the rooms are huge and spotless and there is free parking. Breakfast is included and is excellent. Made to order full irish was great. Some surprises on the breakfast such as Fresh fish are a welcome change from the norm. Will definitely be staying there again.

When we stay in Kinsale we always book hotels. The lodge is just as good as any we stayed at.
Will be back again as it's very central and also has off street parking.
Room was huge a very airy.
The bath panel which was wood had some damage and needs repairing.
Other than that no complaints at all :)

Room Tip: Room 109 is huge , great room.

We had a great overnight in Friar's Lodge with our 2 small dogs, wonderful pet friendly B&B. Very nice welcome and good hearty breakfast. Lots of American tourists clearly enjoying their trip to Kinsale. A great find we will be back, thank you Maureen and girls.
