“Great place to stay”
Reviewed August 20, 2005

We stayed in the Old Presbytery for a long weekend in one of the 2 bedroom apartments with its own living room. The rooms were very nice, very clean and spacious and very well maintained with furnishings that tied in beautifully to the character of the building. Such a pleasant change from staying in formulaic sterile chain hotels. We asked if breakfast could be arranged in their dining room and we were fitted in with no problem whatsoever. We would certainly come back to this bed and breakfast without hesitation. Ignore the negative reviews. People complaining about this place will probably never be happy with anywhere!

Stayed May 20-22, 2005 in the Willow Suite. Roomy suite, very comfortable--great for 3 women for multiple nights midway through our trip. Laundry service was welcome at that point. Lovely town--the walking tour is a must! Great food, too--Crackpots just down the hill.

We thought the Old Pres was good. The town was kinda closed up and there was construction going on. We were told we would have a king bed but got two twins pushed together? What's with that?! The breakfast was very good lots to pick from. The owners were nice. Was expecting more from Kinsale though.

My partner, two friends and I had a self-catering apartment at the Old Presbytery in May, 2005 and we were very happy with it. (Self-catering means that you do not have maid service and cannot partake of the breakfast available to other guests.) There were two bedrooms, three bathrooms each with a shower and one also had a bath tub, a good-sized living area with a table and a kitchen. The kitchen was small, but had everything we needed. We walked a few blocks to a local bakery each morning to get fresh scones, yogurt and other baked goods, which was wonderful. The thing that impressed all of us was the quality and quantity of the utensils, cookware and appliances in the little kitchen -- you could indeed cook and serve a full meal, including baked goods. There were also plenty of good quality towels. There was a heating element in the bathroom that blew in warm air, which was very nice in the chilly mornings. The location is perfect, right in the heart of Kinsale. We walked everywhere after we parked our car in the courtyard lot of the Old Presbytery. We also enjoyed the company of the proprietor's cat, who wandered in through an open window to say hello. It was a wonderful arrangement and we wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

We just returned from 10 days in Ireland, staying 2 nights in Kinsale. We had originally booked a cute, boutique hotel downtown but were dismayed when checking into our room that had audible jack-hammering and the windows were boarded up! We panicked and went to the Old Presbytery which I had remembered had good ratings. Noreen was so lovely - she said she had a room for us (with no notice) and after we told her our sob story took us upto the lovliest room at the top of the stairs with views of the city. We were very happy with our stay there and if we return to Kinsale we will not hesitate to stay here again.

I was a bit concerned about staying at the Old Presbytery after reading some of the reviews on this site, but it turned out we had absolutely nothing to worry about. We were there in Oct. 2004 and had the most wonderful 2-night/3- day stay. Our room was large and airy, with very comfortable beds, crisp linens, lovely furniture and a very good size bathroom. The breakfasts were out-of-this-world, with so many choices. I loved the home-made muesli and the fruit crepes -- it was very welcome after the artery-blocking eggs and bacon we'd been consuming for most of the trip, but if you want eggs, those are available in many varieties too. The location of the Old Pres is just fabulous--it's right in the heart of the town, but is on a quiet street, so you don't hear any noise (at least we didn't). The floorplan of this B&B is very confusing, so don't be surprised if you get lost several times trying to find the diningroom, or your way out. We fell in love with Kinsale and the Old Pres (Phillip and Noreen, the owners are the nicest people) and wish we could have stayed longer. We were sad to leave. By the way, don't miss out on Don Herlihy's walking tour. It's extremely informative and filled with great history lessons and anecdotes pertaining to Kinsale.

We really enjoyed our stay at this inn. We were lucky enough to stay in the suite that came complete with a view of the bay. This was by far the finest room we had during our trip around Ireland. Outstanding service and a lovely breakfast were routine. All of this in a lovely old building in the heart of town, less than a block from a castle! We look forward to a return vist to the Old Presbytery!
