“Nice Hotel -- But a little disappointed”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 28, 2007

We stayed in June and the hotel was not nearly as nice as I expected. I din't find anything special about it at all. Our room was a little worn and unfortunately faced the street where the party goes on until after 4am. There is no elevator so be prepared to schlep your bags up the stairs. It is in a good located in Kinsale which is a lovely village.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Blue Haven. Kinsale is a cute, picturesque town south of Cork, and the Blue Haven fits in perfectly for all travelers. We rented three standard rooms, and while the hotel cautions that the rooms are small, they were more than adequate. The front desk staff was excellent, allowing us to have a small birthday celebration in the lobby, and the bar was very comfortable and nicely appointed. The breakfast was very good, and the gentleman serving breakfast, helpful and pleasant. Parking is crazy in Kinsale in August, but the hotel front desk was very helpful in directing us to a convenient parking lot.

  • Liked — Its location and the helpful staff
  • Disliked — Fairly small rooms, but they do tell you about this in advance, and, after all, you are in an older building in a small, quaint, town

I stayed here for two nights in July 2007. The hotel is great with very friendly efficient staff and really delicious breakfasts! They have recently refurbished the hotel bar and it is now a great venue for a few drinks and to listen to live music. When we were staying an excellent trio of traditional Irish musicians were playing - it made for a really enjoyable evening.

We didn't eat in the hotel restaurant (although it looked rather good) and we ventured out into Kinsale to see if it would live up to its reputation for great food. We weren't disappointed! We discovered a great little place called "Le Bistro" just around the corner from the hotel. Although it didn't look like much from the outside, the food was absolutely amazing and it was by far the best meal we ate on our holiday (and this was against some pretty stiff competition).

In all I would recommend the Blue Haven as a great place to stay in Kinsale. If I had one criticism it would be that the rooms are a little on the small side but this did not really impact on the enjoyment of our stay.

Stayed at the Blue Haven on Saturday 14th July. Lovely room [a tad small]. Spotless. Complimentary 2 bottles of mineral water a very nice touch plus tea and coffee. Good food in the restaurant and nice wine selection. Kinsale is a fabulous spot. Amazing eateries, pubs and shops. Unfortunately the whole experience was ruined by the noisy boy in the apartment opposite the Blue Haven. He had a party with similar noisy boys and girls on the Saturday night playing a keyboard, booming music, and yelling and cavorting as drunks do. They kept it up until five a.m. Nobody called the guards. You could hear them in the hotel with the windows closed. It was WOEFUL. Hopefully he doesn't do that every Saturday night. Would not chance the Blue Haven again after that. Next time will stay at the Trident.

  • Liked — Quaint room

Stayed here in May 2007. This is a high quality upscale hotel in a great location in the wonderful waterfront city of Kinsale. It is close to everything. A bit on the expensive side compared to other hotels in Irleland but it had comparable prices to other hotels in Kinsale. The breakfast that came with the room was fantastic! The room was lovely and very comfortable. Free wireless Internet. The CIty does not enforce parking meters after 6:00 p.m. or before about 10:30 a.m., so the best place to park if you are only oing to be there for one night is at a meter rather than in the municipal parking lot, which is more than 1/4 mile away. I would highly recommend the Blue Haven.

We chose this hotel after reading the reviews from this site.
We didn't have reservations and when we arrived the only room available was a deluxe room. The very nice lady at the front desk let us see the room to see if we wanted to stay at the hotel or not. The deluxe room was larger then their standard rooms and the price was still well within our price range.

We loved our room! It was beautiful.

We enjoyed the breakfast. My husband couldn't believe all the food that was offered.

The service was excellent and the location perfect.
We loved being able to walk around Kinsale and enjoy the town.

I stayed here in April with my parents and sister having moved hotels mid weekend! (please don't stay at the Acton's hotel it is dreadful).

The receptionist was very friendly and the reception had a roaring fire and comfy seats. The rooms are lovely, very modern and clean with plasma TVs and up to date bathrooms.

We ate in the restaurant twice and the food was superb (the fish was excellent). The service was efficient and friendly. We also went into the Cafe attached to the hotel which is nice for a coffee or a light lunch.

It is in the middle of town next to the harbour so it was perfectly located for walking around the town.

I really enjoyed it and it rescued our weekend.
