“Great Food, needs more attention to detail”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 3, 2013

Visited this little gem on the recommendation of TripAdvisor !
It is set in a very old stone building and looks amazing inside. The food is honest fare but took an age to arrive on a very quiet Tuesday night. Service was "quiet" no chat or interaction from the staff was disappointing. Antipasti is amazing, probably best shared between 2 if you are having pizza ! Very good wines at reasonable prices, the "bin end" idea is excellent. The Pizza is top notch, fresh flavoursome & the Jersey Jeff which features local charcuterie can't be beaten. My wife had pasta which was cooked al-dente and lots of flavour.
The only negatives were the smell of damp in the building (which the waitress put down to a leaking roof) and the general scruffiness of the premises. Toilets were very untidy and the carpets throughout needed hoovering badly. Considering we called at 8pm and the restaurant was only open from 6pm I would say that no cleaning had taken place for a day or two. In saying that I wouldn't let it put you off visiting. A good "deep clean" and this would be a 5 star experience.

“Eat here!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 24, 2013 via mobile

Had dinner here on a Sunday night. Walked in at 6 pm. No need for a reservation. Very good basic Italian fare, pasta & pizza. Great alternative to pub food at reasonable prices. Check out the close outs on the wine board. Good deals on bottles here. Main dining room is in the daylight basement of a 500 year old building. The building is rumored to have once belonged to a drug dealer who disappeared one day...

“A really nice Italian”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 24, 2013

A great pleasure to have found this restaurant. Lovely bruschetta and fantastic pizza. My husband loved the prawns and carbonara. Really nice wine at a good price. Only criticism was my husband felt the Parmesan cheese did not have a good flavour. The guy and girl who served us were great fun and friendly.

“Nice break from fish and chips”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 20, 2013

Kind of hard to find. 1 block up and parallel to quay street. Beautiful old stone building. Ask the staff about its history. Restaurant is downstairs after entry. Service was excellent and friendly. Ordered 2 salads and they were made with super fresh greens. Split what I think was the "Staff" pizza. Wonderful crust and toppings. Great antique decorations. Very reasonable price for Kinsale. Only 1 other family there when we showed up at 1830. 2 other couples came in after us, so it was very quiet. Nice change from fish and chips.

“Loved it.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 10, 2013

A really charming venue and it has to be said some of the best staff I have encountered in any restaurant in such a long time. The pizza was to die for and the chocolate ice cream is out of this world. Really recommend it.
