“A hidden gem outside of Kinsale”
Reviewed August 22, 2012

Lots of locals here. Not fancy. But get a table out on the glassed in patio for a view to die for. Flowers from the whitecaps with the horses grazing nearby. Wow! The standard menu was pretty plain, but we ordered each of the two fish specials and they were cooked to perfection. Service was fine. In fact, we had the patio all to ourselves. This was one of the best meals we had in Ireland. On a Saturday night, Kinsale was mobbed and we were not looking forward to driving back into town. We hit the jackpot instead. We were staying only five minutes away at the Blue Horizon. So if you are staying in Kinsale, this is a 12 minute ride or so over the bridge out of town. But it is well worth it. No water view for dinher in Kinsale!!!

“Not a Great Experience..”
Reviewed July 21, 2012

Popped in here for quick bite to eat while driving around Kinsale. This is the only pub/grub spot for miles. Signs outside for food so we stopped.

First impression walking in was good atmosphere. Alot of families from local holiday home park. The views from the back looking out over the coastline are amazing.

Waitress was pleasant and quick to take out order. Impressions changed when we visited the toilets.. They were unclean, neglected and in need of a makeover. While waiting for our food we also noticed mold on walls and window ledge in conservatory area. The floors were very dirty with remains of chips squashed which people were walking on making a mess across the restaurant/bar.

The starter Brie was really nice and the main burger was equally as good (with exception of cheap supermarket burger buns...)
The soup was ok but a bit pricey at €4.50 for what we got. The Fish and Chip mains... well the fish was cooked perfectly and breaded nicely. The chips let this meal down as they were the frozen catering type which were blanched and pre-cooked then recooked for order. Not pleasant.

Recommendations to management:
1) Your cleaning procedures need attention in restaurant area and toilets. Especially mold on walls and windows which is serious health issue for a restaurant.
2) Toilets could do with being renovated
3) Cutting corners on with cheap burger buns and frozen chips bring down the good quality of your mains. Fresh bap buns and fresh cut chips would be expected for price being charged.

Plenty of potential for the Speckled Door, just needs a bit more attention in certain areas.

“Great Food”
Reviewed June 11, 2012

Called in for our evening meal. Great food - we both had the beef - it was cooked to perfection. The service was perfect and we would recommend this pub to all.

Thanks

“Consistenly good pub food”
Reviewed March 12, 2012

Consistently good home cooking as a reasonable price. Main course & dessert & tea came to €20 per person. Pleasent and efficient staff. Near Garrettstown beach and Kinsale.
