Owner description: As Ireland's only Model Village, the West Cork Model Railway Village in Clonakilty, Co. Cork is a fully scaled handmade model of the old West Cork Railway Line with fully working trains and the towns that the railway served during the 1940s. Take a spin on our iconic Road Train through the beautiful town of Clonakilty. Indoor and outdoor play areas. Relax and enjoy a cup of coffee/tea in our cafe or visit our Gift Shop in an authentic train carriage.

Had been here before some years back and found it to have been a great experience and one to be repeated. However, this years experience (Tues, 15th April) is one I hope never to repeat. It was hugely disappointing. Only one model train operational, all towns were without small figures of any kind. Spoke to the girl at the ticket desk about lack of trains, and was told 'sorry - they could be under a bridge!!!' Surely, we should have been told that there was only 1 model train operational before purchasing the entry ticket? Went for a trip on the road train and the audio commentary was not operational in any of the carriages. The cafe and gift shop were over priced. All in all a complete disaster for our 6 yr old and a waste of money for us.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review, I am disappointed to hear you did not enjoy your return visit. Since last winter we have started the process of improving our facilities including rebuilding the model towns. The small handmade figurines you missed were temporarily off display having been lifted for safe keeping while the roads were resurfaced, they are now back in the towns.
We do have some technical hiccups from time to time with the trains and are adding additional tracks this year to help improve these displays .
we have taken on board all your comments and would like you to visit us again to see how we have improved .
kind regards
Kim McNamara

We stayed Clonkilty and visited it with the children and it was a great morning spent there. My wife had coupons she got on the back of till receipts which came in handy. We really enjoyed the trip around on the CHCO CHCO around the village. Its well worth the visit.

We paid a visit here last summer and our 2 1/2 year old boy loved it!! The model village is beautifully kept and arranged. There was also a lovely train ride around the town that our son loved. You can eat some lunch or have a cup of coffee in an old railway carriage that acts as a cafe. There is also an indoor and outdoor play area. Well worth a trip!
