We went for a mid week lunch. My daughter had a pasta with tomato sauce(3 euro 90c). The handful of pasta was warm and old, the sauce consisted of warm water and chopped tomatos (half a tin of chopped tomatos just heated I suspect). I had a chicken curry and rice(9 euro 90c), the curry sauce was powdery and there was half an orange inside my pile of sauce. Never going there again. Nice staff.

Have eaten here several times and staff were always friendly. Food was nice (Cakes are lovely!) but there was one visit where my carrots were cold. Other than that it's quite enjoyable to eat in and would different recommended all their baked products.

Very disappointed the menu states 'all you can eat breakfast' but when I asked for extra toast they wanted to charge me extra

Al's is located in the Market Green shopping centre, oppposite Tesco's. It is a general café/coffee shop and offers hot and cold meals, coffee, tea etc, and has an attached smoothie bar etc.
Despite various incarnations (including as an Indian late-night restaurant) it is just not a very appealing place to visit.
It does seem to provide decent basic meals and has a variety of breads and cakes etc on offer, but it is never very clean, which I find really off-putting. The floor is sticky and dirty, the tables seem to be the same, despite apparently being wiped down fairly regularly by staff (whose uniforms frequently match the tables ...). The furniture is grubby and some needs replacing or repairing.
It's a shame because location wise, if some real effort was made, including improving the coffee!, then it would be great to drop in and have a drink and a snack and a chat, but as it stands, it's not very inviting.
