“Great for big kids too!”
Reviewed October 23, 2013

A definite stop if you're a toy soldier or cast-miniature aficionado. And still worth a look if you're seeking respite from a grey and gloomy drive across Ireland and fancy a cheap memento/fun memory. Lovely.

“The kids loved it.”
Reviewed October 7, 2013

It's a much longer drive from Macroom than we were expecting but very well signposted and the scenery is gorgeous so very much worth the drive. It's great to see a thriving business in such a small town. The children can make their own town soldier from scratch and then paint it which they loved. Only down side is that obviously the toy soldiers are quite small so painting them is very fiddly for smaller children and with a 20 min time limit (which wasn't imposed but we thought it would be so we felt under a bit of pressure time wise) it can be a bit rushed. The people are very friendly and helpful and great with the kids. The local pub has a good selection of food.

“Fun for Kids of All Ages”
Reviewed October 2, 2013

I visited the Toy Soldier Factory while on holiday with my daughter and Grandson (aged 11).
It was off the beaten track but well signposted which is something of a novelty in this part of southern Ireland. We were laughing even before we reached it as the sign posts on the small road started with "You're on the right road to the Toy Factory, not far now!", followed by signs counting down from 500m, 300m, down to 25m on the right!
As well as the shop and hands on making and painting areas the factory working area is also open to visitors.
We watched as a lady demonstrated the method of making the toy soldiers and other metal items such as fairies, dragons, fantasy characters and much more. Anyone over the age of 6 can then have a go under strict control as hot liquid metal is involved. Edward made a toy soldier which he was very proud of having done it all himself.
Afterwards he had half an hour in the painting area with everything he needed to paint his soldier. While he was painting my daughter and I took turns watching him and browsing in the shop. There really is something for everyone from chess sets, Lord of the Rings characters, fantasy figures from classic comic books, fairies, Christmas decorations and ornaments.
I also bought two presents for Christmas, A starter kit for Edward and a dragon kit for our daughter.
There is a small charge for making and painting your own figure but no charge for anyone else.
There are toilet facilities on the site but only an automated drinks dispenser for refreshment...But there is an excellent pub next door which serves excellent food and Guinness and is very welcoming.

“Nice pit-stop”
Reviewed September 15, 2013

Found this place by chance when we were driving from north Kerry to Blarney and thought it was something different and gave it a go.
As a group of 6 adults (3 male, 3 female) the girls were slightly apprehensive as they thought it would be just for the boys.
We had a little look around and ended up doing the little make-your-own workshop, all of us left very happy and have our own little figurines to remember the experience.
