“A Must See in Ireland”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 20, 2013

This is a fantastic turreted castle started back in early medivel times and added to over the centries. It is complete with all original furnishings as it has been the home of the Talbot family for over 800 years!.

There is a magnificant great room, two drawing rooms, library, and a number of other rooms. Also there is a fine museum, a gift shop and a cafe. There are Abby ruins, a bell tower and original fortification ruins.

There are lots of formal gardens on almost 300 acres.

“Nice to Stroll around”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 20, 2013

The entrance to the Castle Demesne was well laid out and there was ample parking in a nicely laid out and landscaped carpark. The walkways were beautifully finished. Possibly very suitable for baby strollers and wheelchairs. I initially visited the visitor centre which had toilets, information desk, large open spaces and some seating. It also had a retail unit selling a variety of household, clothing and craft items. Weaving through strategically placed display units, I eventually found a restaurant towards the back of the shop. For visitors who just want to use the restaurant, this obstacle course to the restaurant is irritating. I could imagine parents with children, having to struggle to keep the children in sight while they negotiated the route. This self service unit was well run and staff were pleasant. The food was also quite good. I was concerned that I wouldn't get a seat as the place seemed quite full but I did. The restaurant seemed over full. I found speaking and listening in the restaurant somewhat uncomfortable as the noise of people talking and staff clearing tables seemed to be amplified by the furnishings and decor.

There was a short stroll from the visitor centre to the castle. We waited for 10 mins in a display area before a guide arrived. The guide has a strong voice which was clear and easy to understand. She was very clear in her directions through the corridors and 4 main rooms. I didn't view the walled garden but could if I wanted. Adult entrance fee was €12 and Senior Citizen was €7.50

“Interesting History - Beautiful Gardens”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 16, 2013

We enjoyed the visit of the castle although I was a bit disappointed by the relatively small number of rooms that could be visited as part of the tour. I suppose that as restorations take place, more may be opened to the public in due course. The history of the castle and of the Talbot family was interesting and the tour guide was engaging (and did not sound like a tape recorder). The gardens are well worth the visit.

“Malahide Castle”

Excellent. I have not visited it since it was remodeled. Prior to that it was well worth the visit. Good history of the Talbot family, beautiful grounds, nice coffee shop. Will visit again next time I am home.

“Loved the tour of the castle and garden”

We enjoyed the tour of the castle. Getting to the castle was a quick train ride from Dublin. Be sure to spend time walking in the garden.
