“A few missing touches...”
Reviewed November 13, 2012

Stayed recently for one night in the Grand Hotel. It is in the lovely village of Malahide and is situated just a couple of minutes walk from the village centre in one direction and looks to the sea in the other direction.
The public areas are fine - perhaps faded glory feel to much of the place, although with obviously some money having been spent on the lobby area itself. The reception staff were pleasant and helpful.
The room was where the missing touches were noticed - despite being a 4 star, there was no minibar in the room, no dressing gowns, only the most basic of toiletries, a heated towel rail that wouldn't switch on, a small TV that was quite some distance from the bed, a shower head that came to upper back region due to the low bathroom roof, not that clean with a long hair in the sink. On the plus side, the room was warm, the bed comfortable and the view of the bay excellent. On the whole though a bit disappointing for 4 stars.

Stayed here for a few nights for some client meetings on the business park in Swords and was very pleasantly surprised.
The room (I was upgraded to the exec room) was very nice and a decent size - nice big king size bed
Breakfast each morning was very nice and the gym was functional
Malahide is lovely and very easy indeed to get right into the centre of Dublin on the train (25mins)

Stayed for two nights in October on a get away weekend with my wife, executive room and evening meal deal.
Room was great ,good as any I have stayed in Dublin City, Breakfast is excellent and cannot be faulted.
Evening meal we took on the Saturday night after a days shopping in Dublin (Dart Station 6 mins roughly walk from hotel) was good, not out of this world but good.
Lovely waiter Foreign (aren't they all ) bit hard to understand in a nice way ,made our night because the wife and I had a great laugh trying to make out everything he was saying, but to be fair he probably couldn't make out the Norn Iron accent either LOL.
Nice hotel, nice town and close to Dublin without having to drive into the madness of the City centre.

Room Tip: Executive rooms are bigger in the new wing.

I was booked into the hotel for 3 days, but to my dismay i was put into the older part of the hotel and my room was very dated and very small and cramped. The following morning I asked to be moved to the newer wing but was told I would have to pay another €25.00 for a 'executive room'.(Rate paid €90) I have stayed in many hotels and their executive room is simliar to a normal bedroom in a standard hotel. I checked out immediately.
The food and staff were pleasent and they have a good leisure centre. However I will not be returning to this hotel again.

Room Tip: Make sure you are booked in the New wing.

Stayed here for 2 separate nights in Oct. 1 with the family which had an adjoining room for the kids @ €189 per night was I thought great value. Rooms are a bit dated & in need of a bit of TLC compared to the excellent reception & foyer. Food was excellent @ breakfast without a doubt 2nd to none... Staff very pleasant. The main drew is Malahide itself. Faboulous for shopping, food @ nightlife, pubs brimming with local Irish musicians, craic was mighty.

We recently had a family get together and the location was the reason the Hotel was chosen. We booked lunch in the Coast Restaurant and I have to say it was perfect. The staff were excellent and couldn't be more accommodating considering we had 4 small children.

The selection on the Buffet was great and the desserts were very popular. it is great value and would be a Hotel I would recommend in the future.

Stayed at the Grand Hotel Malahide for a 3 day conference... the Hotel was great, and the staff were wonderful.

Very typical European type Hotel, were the rooms are not large but are very comfortable. The breakfast (included in room) was more than I expected... it was great!

The gym and pool facilities are beyond expectation....

And Malahide has plenty of shopping and restaurants.... i loved it.

Room Tip: The ocean view is wonderful on the North side of the building...
