We recently spent two nights at the Grand Hotel, Malahide. Very nice hotel but urgently needs updating. We had an Executive Room which had a lovely view over the harbour. The room was exceptionally small and the ensuite was tiny. The shower was awful. The spray of water (which was not adjustable) was equal to that of a watering can and I do not exaggerate! Surely a 4* hotel should be offering a power shower! We travellers do expect such basics as normal nowadays... after all we are paying for the privilege of staying at The Grand! Now the location of our room was something else! We had to take two elevator trips to access our room and on our final day we still hadn't 'cracked' it! On a very positive note, however, we have to say that the food was absolutely delicious. The breakfasts were very good with plenty of variety and the evening meals in Coast Restaurant were exceptional. The choice of starter, main course and dessert was not only extensive but utterly delicious. The staff were efficient, pleasant and helpful with special mention for Alfonso. Would we stay again in The Grand? Yes, but please get the showers replaced.

I stayed here for two nights last week as I base for the Dublin area, this was my third visit to the Grand.
the staff throughout were fine and no issues there.
However the room had a broken router, the TV was ancient and outside the room the wallpaper was missing!
the hotel in general was clean and tidy, just lacking in atmosphere.I guess the hotel is aimed at the Golfing fraternity, it certainly needs to think a little more about its approach to the business traveller and wifi in the rooms would certainly be a move in the right direction.

Room Tip: make sure you request a clear sea view and avoid the area over the hotel extractors!

I recently stayed here for 2 nights with my boyfriend and loved this part of Ireland it is undeniably beautiful but I felt this hotel is just average. I feel it is also aimed at an older client base as we were the youngest people there or so it seemed to be. The staff on reception are excellent and cannot be faulted. On checking in we used our key card in the lift and after 4 attempts it eventually worked the rooms are average and need updating a lot of old run down wooden furniture etc when using the spa facilities you have to go outside in a separate building and pay €2 for swimming caps the women's shower areas were dirty need the shower curtains changed and hairs clogged in the showers drains. the facilities like the jacuzzi and steam room also need updating with rusty and dirty bits after being to places like galgorm manor, slieve donard an the merchant these standards of the grand hotel need addressed. All in all a lovelt part of the world but an average hotel which has so much potential.

We attended the Notre Dame footaball game and were booked here as part of a small group attending the game. It was quite expensive but given the throngs in for the game we were happy to have such a beautiful spot. The staff was very accomodating and we were allowed to check in early after a long international flight. Our room was nice but not out of the ordinary- in the executive wing which was a fairly long walk- two different elevators.. It was quite large with a large bathroom. Very stuffy -no AC. The town was a short walk away as well as the DART which we took into Dublin twice. Both times we took a cab back because it was late and that became expensive. If your purpose is to visit Dublin this is a bit out of the way. Malahide is a cute town to visit with several good pubs but the best meal of our trip was dinner at the hotel. Outstanding- from the price fix menu. Breakfast buffet was very good.

We used the athetic center and pool once- it is a detached building - a sports complex and you must purchase a bath cap.

We stayed here as our base when we visited Dublin. The hotel was very well situated within walking disttance to the train. We had a lovely room overlooking the harbour. The only small inconvenience was that we had to take 2 separate elevators to get our room
