Stayed at the Grand 15 October for the third visit this year - first two visits were excellent but this time the room was tiny and very disappointing. When I advised the staff at check out about my disappointment (as a regular visitor) I might as well have told her the wallpaper was lovely for all the notice she took - no apology, couldnt get my credit card into the machine quickly enough. Also had to order coffee at breakfast 3 times before it arrived, by which time the Irish (? with hash browns and no soda/potato bread???) breakfast was long gone! It strikes me the Grand have no trouble filling their rooms and getting their money in so they arent really that bothered about complaints!

Room Tip: ask for the new block, the rooms in the older part are either very small or very dark.

Booked a standard room for o/night stay prior to returning car to airport after our adventure in beautiful Ireland.

Standard room = double bed, very clean with all the basic amenities, modern and well appointed bathroom - all that you could expect, combinded with free wi-fi in public areas and free offstreet parking.

Booked a harbour view table at Coast restaurant for dinner - beautiful setting. Food was marginally good - slightly overcooked lamb and duck breat.

Being on holidays and spening last night touring Ireland we were in no hurry, just soaking up the atmosphere - just as well !

7 tables and 3 wait staff, the service was slow - very slow.

On leaving the restaurant - my wife who has a business background - very politely provided the maitre'd - female supervisor with some constructive feedback as the service left a lot to be desired.

The mature - female supervisor immediately blamed the young waitress! No beg your pardon - I'll look into it etc, etc. Just straight out blaming the waitress - to the customer?

The hotel proudly displays a Tripadvisor Certificate of achieving 4/5 status on reception desk. Management need to focus upon staff training/attitude if they wish (IMO) to maintain this position.

We have stayed at this hotel several times before and have always been very happy with the accomodation. However on this occasion we were part of a conference party and were allocated a room in the old part of the building. On entering the room we were struck by the coldness of the atmosphere and on checking the radiator it didnt appear to be turned on but even when on, it didnt make much difference. We complained to reception and a manager came up to check --fiddled with the radiator and left --no discernable difference to the heating. Apart from this everything else about the hotel was Grand [sic] Location is great --at the seaside end of Malahide. Our room and the breakfast room were overlooking the seafront (right outside) Malahide is a very attractive village/smalltown and we visited several wine bars (wines being my main interest!). winesplus@btinternet.com

Room Tip: Ask for a room in new part of building --these have been upgraded older rooms may not be

My wife and I are just back from a 2 night break in the Grand, I had asked for a room with a view and away from noise and that was exactly what we got. The room was on the second floor over looking the bay and the front of the hotel, from the room we could watch the numerous people etiher walking or jogging along the front towards Portmarnock and back (about 2 miles each way). From the moment we arrived the staff were polite and very friendly and the reception staff were very helpful when we enquired about local restaurants and markets etc. The deal included one evening meal which we took on the saturday we arrived only extras were bottled water, for cheeseboard and one of the main courses (tap water is free) and ofcourse any drinks. Restaurant staff again friendly always present but never obtrusive and tables far enough apart for a quiet meal even though there was a large group eating not far away. We also asked to see the executive rooms and this was no problem for the girls at reception, even though the hotel is busy with a variety of functions it never seemed crowded - one thing however is the swimming pool area ir can get busy as it is not exclusively for Hotel guests- but time it right and you can have it nearly to yourself just ask the pool attendants for advice, there is a gym but didn't use it as we walked along the sea front or into the village to sample the local bars and restaurants. We will definately be back.

we booked a non-smoking room online and were given a smoking room much to our dismay. After lugging 2 weeks worth of luggage into the room, we thought it was just musty but realized later after spending the day in dublin that the smell was due to the smoking. This is not the worst room i've stayed in but certainly one of the top 5, especially considering the price and area. The rooms are tired, cramped and not at all fresh. i would not return here.
