“Boyle”
Reviewed April 27, 2014

This was an interesting way to spend a hour. Some wonderful features in this old Abbey and a colourful history to match. Toby was the guide and a knowledgeable one at that. While the gentleman at the entrance was a font of information and more than happy to share it.

The history of Boyle Abby. I was in awe of the structures remains. We walked all around. Had a nice visit with the gentleman who sold tickets.

“Wonderful”

We arrived kind of late in the day but were welcomed warmly. This is a beautiful abbey and we ended up spending well over an hour walking through the grounds. Amazing stonework.

“Abbey saved from fate”
Reviewed September 28, 2013

Boyle Abbey has been saved from crumbling by very clever conservation measures. The ruin is a huge structure on the banks of the River Boyle. Its importance in its day is obvious. Its importance today has been underscored by the glass walkway and the careful conservation work undertaken by the Board of Works. It is open to the public and a nice experience to stroll around and wonder about all the history that attaches itself to this building.

“ok, half hour and you're done, move on”
Reviewed September 27, 2013

. In town we visited the Boyle Abbey, a Cistercian abbey from the 11th century that is being restored stone by stone, the King House museum and the nearby boating village of Carrick on Shannon.
