Great Northern Hotel
Ranked #4 of 5 Hotels in Bundoran

The first impression of this hotel is the warm and friendly welcome you get from Sarah and the rest of the girls on reception. Their approach to their customers whether it's a couple or a family or indeed a bus full of weary travellers the welcome you get is second to none. As a regular visitor to this hotel I have had the pleasure to witness their professional customer service first hand. This level of professionalism carries thru to the bar/waiting staff and also the night porter - a true example of Donegal's finest! The hotel itself is maintained to a high standard - housekeeping also a credit to this hotel. The rooms are always so warm and cosy and clean. The bathrooms always spotless and always well stocked with complimentary toiletries. The tea/coffee making facilities also well stocked - Robert Roberts coffee - yum!! I would recommend that you sign up to the newsletter to receive up to date special offers and room rates are affordable - if you don't have internet access I recommend to ring the girls on reception where they are more than willing to advise you! with their vast local knowledge it's like having you're very own personal tour guide. The bar/restaurant food is of equal standard and sure not to disappoint! Bar is well stocked and bar staff very courteous and efficient and always have the "bit of craic" with you - as do the regular locals - which is always a good sign in itself!! The leisure facilities are excellent and you have unlimited access to them during your stay. Of course the location of this hotel is a winner - overlooking the Atlantic Coast with lots of activity to enjoy - once again the staff of The Great Northern more than happy to advise you. All in all I cannot praise this hotel highly enough - stay once and you will see why this superb hotel and charming staff are the reason Donegal is known for its warmth and hospitality! The Great Northern Hotel Bundoran - you really are THE PRIDE OF DONEGAL :-)

Traveled up to Bundoran for one night to see the northern lights. Hotel is right on the coast with direct access to the beach. First impressions-wow! Greeted by lovely friendly staff who accommodated us bringing our pet dog, allowing us to keep him in our room. We stayed in a very clean and spacious family room with views of the golf course and coast. While the hotel is quite grandiose the decor is rather dated. We ate in the bar as the restaurant was very pricey with only a set menu at €30 per person on offer. The bar menu was very limited with basically burger and chips, soups and sandwiches, salads or one pasta dish on offer. As we had a small child with us, I did not want to order fried food for him so asked for a half portion of the spaghetti carbonara, this was fine except for the fact that we were charged full price for a half portion. The full size portions on offer were rather small too. I ordered a chicken and bacon caesar salad and it was presented in what I would consider a small breakfast cereal bowl.
We booked our stay through the todayfm.com breaks offer and got our stay for €78 for the three of us. At this price it was well worth it, however in general I found the hotel rather expensive. Having said that, the staff were great, really made us feel so welcome, remembered our names, even the dogs, and made a big effort to engage with my 3 year old son. And the breakfast was delicious. A very family friendly hotel and I would stay there again.

Just returned from our first visit of this year to Great Northern. Again we were not disappointed....
the rooms we like we're ready for us (when I made the reservations Deirdre remembered the
rooms we prefer ... I was impressed), and as usual we enjoyed our 3 nights dinners. Since
returning home from USA 8+ years ago this is my favorite place to spend time in and also use
to bring my American and Canadian visitors to enjoy the "old world" charm of the Hotel, the
spectacular setting of the site, the amenities available and last, but not least, the always gracious
Deirdre, Sarah and Jackie at the front desk. Actually all the staff are excellent.

We booked my in-laws into this hotel couple weeks ago. We got them a 2 night bed and breakfast with 1 evening meal for 179Euros. I asked for a disabled room online, which they received no problem. They loved their stay and really enjoyed their 4 course set meal. So after their feedback i went online to book a 2 night break for ourselves
We chose the 98euro for 2 night bed and breakfast for 2 people. We arrived around 3.30pm. The hotel was easily found. You can't miss it in Bundoran. Right next to the sea surrounded by lovely scenery, away from the town.
We got checked in by the receptionist. Sorry i didn't catch your name. Very friendly and answered any questions we had. She seemed to be on shift the whole weekend but never seemed tired or unhappy to be there. And both nights she was there till at least midnight!!
We were in room 47. Although no sea view (we didn't ask for one). we had a view of the golf course, the room was decorated for the golfers. Pictures of golfers everywhere. Curtains, bedclothes etc. Everything was spotless clean and tidy however so nothing to complain about.
The 4 course in the dining room is 30 euro per person. So its cheaper to pay for it and get the 98 euro rate, rather than the 179 euro deal.
We made use of the leisure center there. The gym looked upto date and modern. Quite busy at that time. We went into he pool area. This looked well managed but spa pool could be a big bigger, for the amount of people wanting to use it. only downside is the showers in the changing room could be better. very little water coming out and kept having to press button, as only got a minute each time.
After a good night sleep, breakfast was very nice. plenty of choice, hot food was fresh, roasting and plenty of it. waiting staff were excellent too.
We had dinner in the bar on the 2nd night. Can't complain about a thing. Food was very quick to arrived and couldn't be hotter.
Having read some of the reviews here, i think some stayed in a different hotel to us. There was no musty smell of any kind. Yes its an old building, but its decorated nicely. Lovely comfy couches in lobby, with lovely warm fire. Staff were great. All we encountered seemed happy to be there, said hello and were only too happy to help. only 1 negative was no wifi in rooms, but can access it in public areas so not too bad.
I will be back to this hotel, and would definitely recommend.

Just back from another few days in one of my favourite hotels. We were greeted by the bubbly Sarah who welcomed us warmly and sent us to room 149. This is one of the recently decorated sea view rooms. Dinner on Friiday night was well presented and delicious. Hubby had roast beef which he said was tender and flavoursome. I had the chicken which was moist and yummy. Staff in the dining room are attentive, courteous and ever pleasant. Next day we walked Rougery which was great as there was a 10k race on . it was brilliant to see so many on the route. Well done to all!. Back to the hotel and into the pool, jacuzzi and steam room. Later we joined the dancers in the ballroom even though we hooleyed away among the fantastic sequence dancers. They are such a joy to watch. Looking forward to our next break here. I wished the hotel group would start a loyalty scheme. Hint hint Sarah!

Just back from a lovely weekend break at this hotel. Staff were friendly and the room was fab. We were B&B and the breakfast was plentiful. We had bar food when we arrived and the choice from the menu was excellent and very reasonable too. The best bit is the Panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean and there is also an amazing walk round Roughey . We hope to be back again soon. Thank you Sarah for making us feel so welcome.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a seaview room we stayed in room 148 and the view was amazing.
