“Lovely old fashioned hotel”
Reviewed August 21, 2007

Stayed at the Dorrian's Imperial during the Rory Gallagher tribute festival ( The festival promoters booked us in to the hotel. Cheers Barry). Had a very large double room with a huge bathroom. The room had that kind of faded feel without feeling rundown. Felt lived in (which I liked) and was very clean. The bed was really comfy.

The hotel is fairly large and was bustling due to the festival. (The hotel was one of the main venues used by the festival). Despite this, there was no problem with noise. The bar was good and friendly. Breakfast was fine. Just a normal cooked breakfast, but there was a choice of other things.

Ballyshannon is a nice place and makes a good base for exploring Donegal. If your looking to stay in the area and want a wee bit of faded luxury, then splashing out on this hotel is recommended.

We spent three very pleasant and comfortable nights at Dorrian's during the 2007 Ballyshannon Folk and Traditional Music Festival. The hotel is central and has plenty of off-street parking.

Ben and Mary Dorrian supervise personally. They have modernised the whole building but it still retains a certain grandeur, especially in the Dining Room and Foyer, of yesteryear.

Old-fashioned standards of service (of which I approve) are provided, but prices are on the high side for rural Ireland (EUR140 per night for a superb twin room and full Irish Breakfast for two).

My husband and I spent a weekend at the Imperial Hotel at the beginning of May and had a really enjoyable time. The food was excellent, the staff very friendly and the room was large and clean. When we came home we arranged another weekend for the end of June and have just arrived back after having an even better time than the last.
We would highly recomment this hotel.

We stopped for 2 nights, the rooms were large and well furnished, food in the restaraunt and the bar snacks were excellent and good value for money.

The staff were friendly and the service efficient .

Ballyshannon is only small, 2 main streets on one side of the river and one on the other side, that if you are in a hurry you might miss ( worth it for the pubs).

The main street can be noisy on a Saturday until late, but itr was much quieter on the Sunday.

Fly to Knock. One of the longest airports in Europe, but only a few flights per day and do not worry about the traffic, there isn't any.

My wife and I stayed for 2 nights at Dorrian's during our recent C.I.E. coach tour of Ireland. The staff was very friendly and (mostly) efficient, and the food was well above average; in fact, a pleasant surprise. The hotel is decorated simply but manages an elegance of a bygone era. Dorrian's is a family-run hotel, and the owner Ben is a charming and gracious host. His keen sense of humor is also a delight. Our only complaint came during breakfast and dinner. While the food was uniformly excellent, the wait staff left much to be desired. They seemed harried and confused, often mistaking items we ordered. A possible cause may be that several of the wait staff were not Irish, but Polish, and therefore had trouble with the English language. But other than that, Dorrians was a great place to stay and I recommend it highly. Stop for a drink in the richly furnished Asaroe Lounge. The dark woods and rich red brocade make it the perfect atmosphere for a pint of Guinness. We would definitely stay there again.

My wife and I stayed at The Imperial at the end of June, 2005. It is a very pleasant hotel located in the centre of the town.
Our room was excellent. It was spacious with a double and single bed. The wardrobe and cupboard space is very generous and impressively finished in dark wood.
The reception, dining and bar areas are very comfortable and tastefully furnished.
The breakfast is first class with a good selection. We had plaice on two occasions and it was delicious. There were two large fillets fried in a crisp batter. On the third morning, however, it must have been a different chef as we got one small fillet each and it was poached. This was our only disappointment.
The dinner menu is excellent and the service is second to none.
The two owners and all staff are very friendly and helpful.
Maybe it was a quiet time of year, but there were very few about. We were the only ones in the bar in the evening, and a quick trip round the town showed that there were very few in the other bars too.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone.
