“Peace & Quiet”

Stayed here for two nights in mid July 2014, with family. Lovely location on the river, close to Ballina town, County Mayo, but expensive.
Breakfast was great, staff and service top notch, friendly and attentive. Hotel layout is odd because it was not purpose built but a converted building. Get your bearings on the first day and you will be fine. Spa is very nice. Rooms were large and comfortable.
Improvement points: We had one Riverside suite and one normal room. Both had very very dark bathrooms with very very low lighting and no fans/ventilation. In the Riverside suite, the dressing area where the wardrobes are was almost completely light-less. There are two spotlights in the ceiling - one was out and the second was a very very low light, basically completely dark. Showers in the bathrooms were tempremental, switching from hot to cool water every few seconds.

Room Tip: Get a riverside room. The windows open completely and it is gorgeous. Make sure all the lights and b...

My husband and I have just returned from a one night stay at the Ice House and wish we could have stayed longer. We arrived late in the evening, got checked in swiftly and escorted to our room, "Rose". It was bright, clean, spacious, had all you would need including bottled water and tea/coffee making facilities. The view from the bed over the river Moy was spectacular. It was very comfy too.The bathroom had both a bath and a shower and toiletries too. We had reserved a table for dinner, so a quick change and we were in the bright, airy bar/ restaurant sipping our "welcome" glass of Prosecco. Tables outside overlooking the river and lots inside to choose from too. The menu had a wide choice of dishes, especially fish. The chowder and steak were particularly good. Staff were helpful, courteous and well presented. Customers were mainly other couples like ourselves and there was not a child in sight! Breakfast was wonderful also- plenty of choice and all very fresh.Unfortunately we did not have time to try the spa but did take a stroll along the waterside in the morning. For your information, car parking could be difficult if there was a function on and there was no cigarette machine(some other visitors told us!!). Overall a very pleasant stay, quiet and top quality. We will definitely return soon.

Just had a wonderful stay at the ice house hotel! Went with my boyfriend for his birthday and the service and experience we had was fabulous. Loved all the additional attention to detail this hotel provides, especially in the room and spa. The staff in the restaurant and hotel are so lovely and helpful, spa was very indulgent having complementary bubbles in their outdoor hot tubs and we had one of the best meals ever in the restaurant - the early bird is a steal for the quality and presentation ! 100% can't wait to return.

I stayed in the ice house a few weeks ago. It is in a lovely location. We checked in and were brought to our room. Each room has a name rather than a number so it might be difficult to find your way around at first. The room had a great view and was clean only criticism was a bit of paint peeling off tge ceiling in tbe bathrooms. The window at the has a great view. We went for a drink before dinner. While the bar was not busy the service was slow. We then had dinner. The food was excellent and presented well. Again my only criticism is that the service was slow. The restaurant staff were polite as were bar staff. I did not use the spa so I don't know too much about it. We had breakfast room service which arrived hot and at the requested time. It tasted great also. Overall I really enjoyed my stay at the ice house.

We stayed here for two nights, it was a complete switch off from everything. It is so charming and the staff are wonderful and very friendly. The restaurant was lovely with stunning views and gorgeous scallops! The SPA is excellent, make sure to try the out door hot tubs!

I came upon this hotel while looking for somewhere with a spa! We wanted to eat, drink and relax!! On arrival we checked in and staff we polite and welcoming! We were invited downstairs to have a complimentary drink and we decided to also have lunch and the bar man was very pleasant and told about the location of the hotel and what there is to do also!! We used the spa it is excellent! The smell of the yon ka products is just beautiful!! We took a walk about outside not a very busy village, so peaceful and location on the water is lovely! Our room was on the lower ground floor level which you could just step out patio doors to a back entrance to the kitchen/hotel etc, I didn't like this and also for security and privacy. I had requested chocolates and wine on arrival this wasn't there, we just received a personalised welcome card. I did query this, when reception looked it was on my booking they apologised that it wasn't followed up. Decor is modern but some things were damaged/ chipped in our room and some stained paint work maybe a small re vamp to keep it looking it's best! We went to the restaurant for dinner that evening it's more like a fine doing experience, food is AMAZING!!!! We had goats cheese salad and the black pudding and apple starters, then the duck and fish for mains!! They were so tasty, looked beautiful and the staff were so attentive! We also had dessert and then Cocktails, which was hard to choose as they all sounded delicious! Great nights sleep and breakfast also he next morning was good, we squeezed a quick visit back to the spa before we left and on checkout the staff apologised again for not having my chocolates etc in the room on arrival!! We will definitely be back here again and I 100% recommend this hotel!! Very romantic, relaxing and peaceful!!

This hotel was lovely. Unfortunately we could only stay for 1 night as it was fully booked.

We stayed in the slate room that was lovely only downside is I near had a heart attack with the amount of spiders, luckily my fiancé got rid of them all (think there was so many as so close to river).

The free drink on arrival was a lovely touch, bar was very cute. We didn't get to have breakfast which was included in rate as we were pushed for time to find somewhere else for the following night.

Would go back again the location is close to ballina town which is lovely but very tranquil out on its own.

The free toiletries were beautiful and so since. Going to buy some next time I am there.
