On checking in at the Ice House , you immediately get the feeling that you are going to relax and enjoy your stay here. The reception areas are spotless, warm, stylish ,perfect mix of contemporary with heritage ,gently lit and the staff very welcoming and professional. A quick glance through the glass window in the floor to the left of the reception desk and you will get a view of the area beneath which was the storage vaults for the ice which came from the lakes and rivers and later imported down the Moy from Norway... Complimentary bubbles on check-in , bags brought to your room and what a room..it was amazing!! We had a riverside suite which I would heartily recommend. Beautiful views with a large private terrace on the river looking across at Beleek woods. It must have been nearly 60 sq. m.!!
The bedroom area could be closed off from the living area if desired. The bed was more comfortable than any hotel bed that I've slept in. Two large flat screen tv's, dvd's and modern surround sound system !.The Four Seasons, Mandarin Orientals and Peninsulas don't get a look in ! The very large immaculately clean bathroom ,with underfloor heating, free standing tub for two large adults , walk-in shower with unlimited pounding hot water was just heavenly after a long walk on Iniscrone beach (which is only 10 mins away) in a bitingly cold northerly November wind . Dinner was faultless ,served in the actual 'ice house' or riverside setting by very friendly staff. The food locally sourced .
However you would never want to leave the room once you settle in, it is so beautiful. You could be very content just watching the various birdlife, swans and herons etc on the choppy river Moy from your vast bed through the expansive floor to ceiling glazing or from your living area. If you do manage to leave the luxury , be sure to check out the Chill spa. Again it's spotlessly clean with professional friendly staff , numerous private treatment rooms , a herbal steam room and a relaxing area overlooking the river. Outdoor hot tubs under the stars looked very tempting if you are brave enough to venture out into the Mayo November night. They are kept open until 9pm!!
I had a 40 minute full body scrub using Voya seaweed based products made locally in Sligo. I didn't want to leave the treatment room. In fact, I didn't want to leave the Ice House !
I cannot recommend this hotel enough, from it's staff, it's rooms, it's beautiful setting,it's food but most of all , from the warm, relaxing atmosphere that persists from the moment you check in to the eventual day of reluctant departure... !
