“Great family weekend”
Reviewed October 5, 2013 via mobile

Thanks to management and staff for making the Cronin Classic reunion a tremendous success. The hospitality and friendliness shown by your staff along with the excellent food and service was much appreciated by us all. We all returned to our homes in Ireland, USA and UK with great memories.

The Hotel is situated in an excellent location just a few minutes walk from Ballina. My first impressions of the Hotel were that it was fairly run down but upon entering we were greeted by an extremely friendly and efficient receptionist, as they say first impressions last. My room was very spacious and clean as was the bathroom, it was very comfortable and warm even though the radiator was not on! It could be argued that the decor is dated but that is a matter of taste and opinion. The hotel has a very good gym and swimming pool. I spent three nights at the hotel and would return. All the staff in the hotel were friendly and helpful which shows the personal touch which is important. There is free Wifi but the signal was not very strong in the room which can be annoying. It was very good value for money.
Overall I was very happy with my time at the Downhill, yes it is getting old and needs some work but the staff and location make up for that.

This is the the 2nd visit this summer - my fist been on business ..this time it was a family group, I Have to say reading some of the reviews I was surprised if they are written about the same hotel. Yes the hotel is old-fashioned but that's what makes it so attractive ...if you're looking for stereo plastic types there are plenty around ...this is as it says Downhill House so it has all the charm of an old country house set in beautiful grounds. There were 5 rooms in the party - we had to be moved because of a plumbing issue on our floor but they couldn't have been nicer ... The 2nd room was fine but I prefer bedside lights from the first room then the overhead lights of the 2nd rooms, bar food was fine. I do have to compliment the Sunday Lunch in their Brosna Room , anybody looking for a real good old fashioned Sunday lunch should go there a combination of waiter and Buffett service it was seriously fantastic, I haven't seen a lunch like this in a long time and everyone of the group toughly enjoyed the expire nice .The owners appear to be on site all the time - it was a lovely trip - thanks

We stayed at the Downhill hotel September 2013 with a tour group. The room we first checked in was extremely dirty; dirt and dust everywhere. The beds were extremely uncomfortable and the room had a musty smell. We requested to move rooms; the next room was a small improvement (not as dirty) but still had a musty smell. We later learned that 5 other couples requested to move rooms because of similar concerns.

We did see some of the other rooms and the most concerning was one room had no safe chairs to sit in. Each chair had a temporary fix, for example zip ties to hold it together. There was tea and coffee available to guests in the lobby but you had to look for a clean cup to use.

The staff where helpful, but the hotel requires a deep cleaning and a major upgrade. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Room Tip: Apparently there are renovated rooms.

we recently booked 4 double rooms for a family wedding at the downhill two of the rooms were lovely and spacious and were finished to a high standard but two were small and very cramped the shelf where the kettle was,was too far away from the socket so you had to boil the kettle on the floor, there was scum marks on the shower and a washed out blood stain on the bedding, the rooms were very cold at nite and the breakfast was rather dryed up! we found the staff to be pleasent and very welcoming and the grounds were very beautiful the hotel is very central to to the town, there is also a great pool and spa there,

We stayed for a night breakaway, at weekend, as a family of four, great value. Food was excellent, staff were lovely. There was great music in bar. Great swimming pool. It is very near the town of Ballina. If you looking for a peaceful break, This is a quiet location. It is about 20min drive from Enniscrone beach.
