We were part of a group of travellers touring Ireland and booked into the Downhill Inn for 4 nights . We were surprised by the quality of the hotel and the cost - very reasonable indeed. It is not a 4 star hotel but the services offered and the food provided was very good. The rooms were clean and the staff extremely helpful . Well worth a visit if in the area.

The Downhilll Inn lives up to its name. I stayed here for a night and would not stay here again. It says it is a three star but I would think its less. There were only two staff as far as I could see working in the Hotel. It seemed like it was practically empty in the summer and understandably so. The decoration was very dated and the restaurant was empty when we went to eat. In the end we decided to eat elsewhere as it seemed to be the safe option. The rooms were dreadful with carpets that were not particularly clean. The bathroom was badly kept and the room smelled badly. Overall not a nice place.

Room Tip: Avoid this place

We stayed here for a night and found it very good. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Breakfast was very good and had dinner in the restaurant which was also good and reasonably priced. Staff were very nice and helpful. Good based for touring around Mayo. Ballina had good shops and a good playground close to the hotel. Plenty to see a short drive away. Would stay here again when returning to Mayo.

The window was broken off the hinge and was impossible to close so we were joined by several flies for the night and we're also freezing. Had a pint of bulmers (which came in a can) the bar and found a family of dead Slaters behind the table.
