We went to this restaurant for dinner. It was a special occasion for a friend. We were asked when we booked and told them what it was & they said they would do up a dessert plate with congrats on it. They did which was fab but the waiting staff came up twice and asked rather obviously who is x which completely ruined the surprise

Food wise the wings were fab, pork belly yummy, duck v good as well. Menu is ok not a huge choice. Eton Mess type dessert was nice but nothing special.

Wine- house Cab Sab was €18 but very poor. Definitely worth going a few € extra for a proper bottle.

Good restaurant but I think there are better in Ballina.

We went there on a Tuesday evening in November and the place was full.
There is an interesting menu and you the staff are very helpful and friendly. The wine selection is good and reasonably priced. A very nice atmosphere and good service made for a very memorable evening.

We were in Ballina on a break to celebrate our wedding anniversary and after a great experience in Market Kitchen last year, we went back to taste the delights again. To say we were not disappointed is an understatement. From the waitress who looked after us to the wonderful food served, it was a night to treasure. When booking, Market Kitchen asked us if there was an occassion.We let them know it was our second wedding anniversary. On arrival we received two on the house glasses of champagne and our dessert plates were displayed with happy 2nd anniversary with what I think was chocolate sauce,very impressive and professional.This restaurant is a must for any visitors in the Ballina area, we are already looking forward to our next visit.

After eating at Murphy Bros and Market Kitchen on various visits to Ballina my partner and I made a reservation (via facebook -which we have done before with no problem) a week or two in advance of our holiday in late September 2012, as we wanted to ensure we had the opportunity to dine at our favourite restaurant which sits overlooking the beautiful River Moy. Yet again, we were over the moon with our experience at this top notch restaurant!

On the first day of our holiday we were exhausted from travelling and wanted some good, honest, comfort food, so we went to the bar area of the restaurant- Murphy Bros (downstairs) where the food was delicious and filling, the service was also excellent.
The next day we were due to dine at Market Kitchen on the evening as planned before our visit. However, on this day my partner proposed and cause for celebration. Having mentioned it on facebook - Market Kitchen had noted this and on our arrival we were congratulated by the wonderful staff - particularly the very welcoming owner and Aishling- the lovely waitress we had met on our other visits. We were shown to a lovely table overlooking the river, where a card sat waiting for us on the table, inside it congratulated us on our engagement, along with an Irish lottery ticket!!! Really, that alone was such a surprise, but they continued to treat us so kindly throughout the evening, by bringing us a glass of champagne each and it seemed that all of the friendly, well-presented waitresses/waiter took the time to come and say congratulations to us even though they were constantly busy working hard. We were so overwhelmed with the reception we were given. I cannot express how happy we were to have celebrated our special night at the Market Kitchen and how lovely the staff were. Amazing. Such a night to remember.

* THE FOOD *
If anything the food was hand in hand with the service,simply the best we have found in Mayo and as bold as that sounds I would dare you to find better. Our starters were perfect, my salmon with cucumber ribbons was presented beautifully and tasted so fresh and my partner Michael thoroughly enjoyed his goats cheese and red onion tart. The main courses were lamb -which he ate for the first time in years after vowing to never eat again.... well it was worth it, he enjoyed every mouthful including a side of the famous sumo-fries he adores,he rates at 10/10! I had the pork belly with blackpudding crumble. The pork was juicy and tender and tasted amazing, 9/10! I had a similar dish at Mount Falcon a few nights later and I must admit that I preferred the Market Kitchen which was both cheaper and tastier. We had a lovely bottle of Chilean Sauvignon Blanc with the meal which also went down very well!
My partner then couldn't resist the desert menu even though he was full from the generous portions. When his favourite Malteser/Baileys desert came out the plate was personalised beautifully congratulating us once again on our engagement, so impressive! Even others dining in the restaurant were impressed with the effort that had been made!

We have never been so pleased and genuinely amazed by the generosity of a restaurant, and even before this experience we have always enjoyed the food and atmosphere at the Market Kitchen which alone kept us coming back. We cannot wait for our next visit and only wished we had time to visit again before we headed home to England. If you love high quality food and service at a very reasonable price then this is the place for you!

Thanks a million once again to ALL of the kind, hard working staff who made our night so special! -Fiona and Michael (UK.)
