Pretty scenery involving the rural aspects and the sea. An overcast day did not detract from the place. Plenty of places to soak up the ambiance or go for a stroll.

Would like to echo, and amplify, a previous reviewer's sentiments regarding Belmullet and it's environs; a horrible sprawling mess of one off housing, strewn all over the landscape; English town planning this ain't! Of course, all of that detracts from one's experience of the bay, but not so much as to negate it's intrinsic beauty. The lighthouse is lovely, and one can scramble a good distance over the rocks nearby, to get more intimate with nature. The view towards Achill island is magnificent.

The day we visited, it was windy and cold. Apart from great views of Achill Island and the Atlantic, there's not a lot to see other than a small harbour and the now unmanned weather station, from which weather reports were provided for the D Day Invasion in June 1944.
Might be better to visit on a sunny day, as I gather dolphins can often be seen in the bay.

Was there a few years ago-very impressive area-and a lovely drive!
Enjoyed it -particularly because it was a lovely clear and warm day!

Despite the fact that you have to drive through horrible Bellmullet to get there (sorry Bellmullet - but you are horrible!), Blacksod it worth it. It's got lovely views of Achill and some other islands, a charming fishing port, and some really lovely beaches. If it's views you're after - you won't be disappointed here.
