stayed here in august 2011,rooms were clean and comfortable
kitchen was tidy and spacious, showers were clean as were bathroom apart for no towel or dryer to dry hands.....some of my friends camped at the back and were happy with everything
its a bit out of town so take into account u will need to get a taxi to and from there if you want to go into dingle town

Room Tip: we got a three bed dorm and one was a double, room no 2

Overall I have given this hostel a 4* rating, as we were quite happy with our stay here, but there were things that could have been better. The rooms differ, four of us shared two twin rooms - one was small and the other was huge and even had a desk in it! I wonder whether the prices should be altered as the nicer room was charged at the same price as the other. We could see the large family room at the end which also looked huge and would probably be a good choice if you were travelling with family or a group of friends. The rooms are clean and pleasant.
The showers weren't great, quite dark and just not that nice, but ok. The building itself is nice and has a good kitchen/dining area but not lots of comfortable communal space so we ended up spending our time at the hostel either outside on the picnic benches or in one of our rooms (the bigger one!). We didn't see a lot of the staff and I seem to remember that they weren't particularly friendly. I don't recall anything specific though so it wasn't terrible or anything. The location is on the edge of Dingle town, fine for us as we had little time in the area and were there to drive the peninsula but if I was interested in seeing the town I would try a hostel more centrally located next time. Overall not a bad hostel but certainly not our favourite.

We read online about the short distance rainbow hostel was from the ocean front and expected to at least be near the town and seaside. Unfortunately, the website definitely underestimated the distance and we found ourselves stranded in this hostel, miles away from town and the ocean. Absolutely pointless to stay here if you want to experience the real Dingle, definitely not worth the money you save.

We planned to stay at the Rainbow for just one night, but ended up camping for more than a week. We could put up our tent anywhere on the grounds and found a nice shady space out back. Camping costs a "whopping" 9 euros per person per night, showers are free, as were use of the well equipped kitchen (fridge, freezer, stove, pots and pans), and lounging area. The place was very clean and the staff was friendly and helpful.
It's a 20 min. walk to the town centre. A bit long at night.

I guess it's not the hostel's fault that there are rowdy hostellers quite drunk on Guinness and making a racket till 3am in the morning. Besides that though, everything was okay. It IS far from the town center, but we had a car so we didn't mind. The place was very crowded with people, so it was pretty loud, but the dorm rooms were nice and spacious. The bathrooms and shower stalls are separate, but they were both kind of dirty. The place IS old looking and wooden, so it was kind of damp and had a musty smell to it, which I didn't like. It was a good hostel at a good rate, despite the loud neighbors, but I don't think I would stay here again unless every other hostel in Dingle are booked. The owner was very nice though!

Stayed for two nights and it was the best placed we camped during our trip. Can pitch your tent anywhere around the grounds - and we had a brilliant little spot, protected on 3 sides and hidden away behind an apple tree.

Showers outside of the main hostel were clean and good but we used those inside as were better showers and unlike other places we stayed these were free and not token operated!

As we'd flown over couldn't bring cooking stuff with us. So great to have use of a fully equipped kitchen, allowing us to make tea and breakfast and to charge our camera batteries etc.. Also so where to sit other than the tent!

It was out of town but we were shown a back route along country lanes (behind the hostel) these weren't lit so wouldn't want to walk alone in the dark but fine with a group of you. Only took us 15 mins to get in - so saves a taxi fare.

For camping this was brilliant!

The good: really cheap, nice and clean room, friendly enough people, 24hour opening, lovely shared kitchen, free wifi

The bad: I thought it would be closer to Dingle town...it wasn't a long walk but there was no pavement so I wouldn't have made the walk back at night after sampling some of the local pubs (which was a shame). To be fair a taxi back between a few friends would have been less than £2 each according to one of the staff. The rooms felt a little cold at night. The staff weren't overly helpful- they weren't around a lot and so we couldn't ask them if there was a quicker way into town or anything, they also didn't tell us the place had free wifi and we only realised on the last morning of our trip. There were no towels to rent (well as far as we know...the staff weren't around to ask).

There weren't any lockers in the rooms- this didn't bother our group as the only valuable things we had were our passports but it's something you do usually expect in hostels with dorms. Also the room didn't lock at all. Despite these things we didn't feel unsafe at all- the hostel just had a very relaxed atmosphere and was full of hill walkers not rowdy people.

Although the complaints list looks long I think we got really value for money and I would stay here again if I was travelling to Dingle on a budget.
