Not something we might have been inclined to visit. However our B&B owners suggested that it was a "must see." And they were right. Beautiful stained glass with a great history. No crowds to fight, so we could take our time with the audio guide and really absorb the experience.
I had been here in 2015, and returned in 2016, when I got to spend some quality time with these windows. The more you look the more you see. I was not able to get good photographs of the whole windows, but got some great photos of the details (I took a LOT of pictures. I was alone in that chapel for about an hour. Wonderful!
Not to be missed! Some of the best work by one of Ireland's greatest artists. Not as sentimental as most religious art. In fact, quite decadent in many ways, like Aubrey Beardsley.
When in Dingle, be sure to visit An Diseart at St. Mary's Church (across from Dick Mack's pub) to view these stained glass treasures. The color is unusual and spectacular in these windows, especially the greens and purples. The level of detail in the work is intricate and delicious, most notably to me in the depictions of faces, eyes and hands. Harry Clarke captured palpable emotion. The eyes are filled with sorrow and suffering, but are only made more beautiful for the depth within them.
If interested in architecture and stained glass windows then a visit to this lovely place must not be turned down. The examples of stained glass windows by the famous Harry Clarke are truly lovely
We were visiting Dingle on an organised coach trip and whilst most of those on the coach just get off and find somewhere to eat we like to investigate what there is of interest so picked up a leaflet about this place from the tourist information centre but it is rather difficult to find especially when you're limited with time but it really is worth a visit. Go into the church close by too but inside the old convent it really is spectacular but make sure you have enough time to really appreciate it!
