The rural road leading to Minard Castlel—in places only wide enough for one car—makes the trip there from Anascaul a bit of an adventure. This may be the most dramatically-situated ruined castle in Ireland, on a small promontory overlooked a beach with surf-rounded boulders. Nearby is a holy well, and on the opposite cliff the remains of an Iron Age ring fort. Although the castle ruins are now too unstable to permit safe entry, here is a virtual-reality tour made some years ago: http://www.voicesfromthedawn.com/minard-castle/
