Hi just returned from a wonderful holiday in Ventry but highlight of our week has to be our three trips with dingle Charter tours. We went on the Fungi trip which was just breathtaking and how beautiful it was to see fungi in his natural seeting. Tour was on time and un rushed and child friendly. Our second trip we repeated such was our sheer enjoyment of two hours fishing. Both fishing guides Tommy and Paul couldn't have done more for us new comers to fishing. we had a five year old with us and she didnt fish but loved the thrill of the boat and counting how many we caughtand if you enjoy eating fish then this is the trip for you. the men will gut the fish for you and though home now in tipperary we have had a delicious dinner of fresh pollack ,cod and we had enough mackerel to share among our family and neighbours. This trip is worth every cent so just wrap up and enjoy! We will definitely be going back. Thanks to tommy and Paul for such an enjoyable experience.

We went today on the Eco Tour....it takes in Inisvickilaun, Inisnabro and the Great Blasket Island. The genial guide knew his stuff... the history, geology, politics, landscape, and wildlife of the area. The islands are far more beautiful than I anticipated. We saw plenty seals, gannets, puffins, cormorants and many more seabirds, dolphin...no basking sharks unfortunately. My only criticism would be that I found it hard to hear the guide. Definitely worth doing.

we had a great time on this boat trip to the blasket island. the tour guide and everyone working on board were really friendly. Got to take in the beautiful scenery on the boat trip over and then spent the day exploring the island and swimming in the sea. highly recommended, one of the best things to do in dingle!

17th August
We went on the catamaran, Grievous Angel, today for the 31/2 hour "ECO" tour from Dingle which stopped at the Blasket Island and then went beyond. I felt rather an aggrieved angel by the end.

The boat was packed and the seats were close together. Sixty+ people at €40 per adult was in my opinion overpriced. If you stick ECO on an attraction it seems you can add to the price. It was difficult to take photographs or even get a good view because 1) too many people wanted to position themselves on the outside to do this 2) the nature and speed of the boat raised a lot of spray even on a calm day which meant that plastic covers, transparent but nevertheless impairing visibility were used.

The boat was very noisy which made the commentary almost impossible to hear. Actually that commentary was sparse; the chap would emerge briefly, say his short piece and then return to the wheelhouse. I would have liked to ask questions but that wasn't possible.

We were not given any warning that the sea would change dramatically for the first half of the extra hour beyond the Blasket Island, either before we boarded or when it actually happened. This meant I got wet and cold before i had a chance to put my waterproofs on. Be warned - it was a relatively calm day but what you experience are Atlantic waves and many people , self included were rather distressed.

Potentially it was also dangerous; the guard rails around the boat were not high. If one was standing and there was an unexpected lurch there was a clear possibility of falling overboard.

In fairness you do get some fine coastal views including fascinating rock formations and time to contemplate the Great Blasket from offshore.

Finally the wildlife in mid-August is disappointing. There are lots of cormorants but the puffins go early in August and it is not a good time for whales or seals.. This is not the fault of the tour operator but it added to my sense of poor value for money.

Try one of the other trips instead.
