“Excellent central base”
Reviewed July 22, 2015 for a stay in July 2015

Sheen Woods is an extremely peaceful and well-kept small development within an easy 10 minute walk from Kenmare which is small but packed with lovely places to eat. The house had absolutely everything we needed for the week and Rose and Mary had provided extras such as hot water bottles, an umbrella, picnic sets and even high-visibility vests for walking at night! They have also taken on board previous comments and the house now has bathmats and drying screens. It should also be noted that the outside patio set in the picture has been replaced with a more comfortable plastic high-backed set. Due to our flight time we had no choice but to arrive late at night but this was no problem for Mary who had also thoughtfully bought in some bread, cheese, butter and milk for our breakfast the next day - tasty and very much appreciated. We dealt with Rose on our departure and she was equally lovely and we would thank them both for a (rainy) but thoroughly enjoyable week.

Stayed for three days at sheen woods .ideal place for touring around the Atlantic coast ,
Mary and her sister very helpful and the house is perfect in a quiet road but with a fifteen minute walk you can be in the charming town of Kenmare with plenty of pubs and shops and two supermarkets .We would recommend a trip round the Beara peninsula and a run over the healy pass .

“Nice location- this house needs only a few details to make it truly memorable”

The owners were waiting for us on arrival. Two charming and friendly ladies, I hope they will accept this review in the spirit of helpfulness in which it is intended- for this house just needs a few changes (in our opinion) to make it one to which you'd want to keep returning.
It is nicely situated in a development on the banks of the Kenmare river- a lovely peaceful location away from the main road. The grounds of the development are well cared for. Kenmare is a 10-15min. walk, but be aware that a short stretch of the road has no pavement, and the road can be busy at times.
The house is an end terrace, and though we were there over a Bank holiday weekend we were never troubled by noise.
The ground floor of the house is open plan and tiled throughout, which made it feel chilly at first. There are plenty of comfortable chairs in the living room.
We are not TV people but I think an upgrade would be welcome for some guests. There was a good supply of DVDs etc, and plenty of written information about the area and places of interest to visit. The lack of WiFi could be an issue, especially for younger people, though many of the bars & restaurants offered free WiFi.
The heating system was a little complicated. There is no central heating. The underfloor heating was explained to us and although we did as instructed the floor never felt particularly warm. The fact that the switches on the wall indicated 'ceiling heating' was confusing. There were portable dimplex heaters in the living area and in each bedroom.
The kitchen was well equipped, though the hob has seen better days and was very slow. There is a dishwasher and a washer/dryer- though the dryer malfunctioned on our visit. A drying rack would have been helpful as I hate using dryers anyway.
The bedrooms were adequate- one double, one twin and one single. I'm afraid we were all amazed to have to make up our own beds on arrival- I've never done this anywhere, and if guests have had long flights/drives etc it isn't a welcome chore. The beds were reasonably comfortable. Each had one pillow per person. More pillows were available but we couldn't find any spare pillow cases.
There is one 'family' bathroom with a tub and shower, one en suite, and a lavatory & washbasin downstairs. Both the tub and en suite shower were very slippery. The whole of the upstairs area is wood flooring. We couldn't locate any bathmats. Hot water was plentiful but the water pressure wasn't great for the showers.
The towels seemed reasonably new, but were the type of fabric which sheds, and doesn't dry well. The bathrooms had the ring type towel rails which made drying towels difficult.
We had mostly lovely weather, so made use of the small outdoor seating area and the barbecue.
I hope this doesn't sound too negative. We had a lovely week, but the little attention to details would have made it even better.

“Fantastic location”
Reviewed April 12, 2015 for a stay in April 2015

We have just returned from a wonderful trip to Kenmare. The cottage was comfortable and in a great place. Kenmare has a lot to offer visitors and is in such a beautiful place. We had a stroll to the Sheen Falls lodge and sat on the patio by the babbling river with the estuary and mountains as a backdrop. Mary was very friendly and helpful, providing us with some necessary supplies when we arrived. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their stay and would love to return.

“The perfect weekend in Kenmare”
Reviewed December 11, 2014 for a stay in November 2014

A rainy weekend at the end of November was made so enjoyable because of a charming house in a perfect location. The house is a a stroll from the famous Sheen Falls where we enjoyed drinks late one evening. We loved the fact that Kenmare was so busy on a Sunday afternoon, not always the case in Ireland. We visited Dromquina and loved it. The house is fully equipped for cooking and the setting in Sheen Woods is full of character and charm.
