“Straight out of a fairy tale”
Reviewed August 5, 2013

Lissyclaerig is a thatched cottage that looks like it came straight out of a fairy tale. As we turned into the driveway, I expected the witch from Hansel & Gretel or Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs to walk out the front door. Carmel welcomed us with tea/coffee and biscuits and made us a great Irish breakfast each morning. She and her husband Davey are both knowledgeable about the areas and fun to talk to. They recommended the Coachman's Restaurant and Pub where we had a great meal and got to listen to some wonderful Irish music. We also enjoyed playing with Mason, the family's big (!) English Sheepdog. Our room was rustic, but nice. The only improvement I'd suggest to supply larger and better-quality towels. Phone and WiFi service were inconsistent, but that's to be expected because of their location. Kenmare is a nice little town and is a great "home base" for exploring the Beara Peninsula and the Ring of Kerry.

Lissyclearig is a very charming thatched cottage, one of the few available as a B&B. Carmel is a wonderful host greeting us with their dog Mason with tea, biscuits and conversation. The rooms are spacious and comfortable with a rustic feel. Breakfast was excellent and served looking out onto the beautiful grounds. Carmel gave us a great recommendation for our evening meal and entertainment (the Coachman). Very close to the Beara peninsula and the Ring of Kerry. I wish we had stayed more than one night. We will be back.

A treasure that I don't really want to share, this is a lovely thatched cottage that hides its age very well, you will be surprised at its age I promise you.Quirky but comfortable with good friendly attentive hosts and resident dog Mason, the breakfast is substantial and well cooked with eggs from own chickens in the garden. It is a little distance from the town centre but you would have some form of transport to see the surrounding area which is stunning anyway. There are lots of nice places in Kenmare to eat in the evening with or without music, it is also a good base for touring the ring of Kerry or the Bera penisula. I will definitely return to this cottage with no hesitation.

If you want a unique experience, stay at Lissyclearig Thatched Cottage. We loved the location and area. It truly is a quaint home. Carmen greeted us with tea and sweets upon our arrival, and took time to draw out a map for us with directions into Killarney. (40 minute drive, but SO beautiful!) Our room was somewhat small, but had a rustic feel with the log headboard. The shower drain was VERY slow to drain, (you end up standing in water while showering) and we made sure to inform our hosts. Don't miss seeing Kenmare. It is a CHARMING town with lots of restaurants and shopping. BREAKFAST was very good too. I ordered the FRENCH TOAST...yummy! Not a 5 star....but worth the stay with the charm of a unique thatched cottage!!

My husband and I stayed here for two nights with another couple. We loved the uniqueness and the charm that this house had to offer. It's close to the town of Kenmare which was by far our favorite little town to hang out in. It was soooo hard to decide where to eat because there are so many pubs and restaurants with awesome food! Another perk about this b&b was how close it is to the ring of Kerry, which really is on the most beautiful areas we drove through.

We met by Carmen and her dog Mason and they made us feel right at home. The house had all the comforts we could wish for. The food was outstanding and the coffee was OOOOOOOOOso good. We were there two nights and the place is in a great location. Very quiet, but not far from town where we found the best Irsh Pub FlorryBatts. We met the owner and had a fun evening talking with hm and drinking a pint or two. We hope to return to Kenmare and are planning on staying at Carmel's b&b.

Room Tip: Great location

what a wonderful place to stay. after reading previous reviews i was overwhelmed with what i saw. From the drive up to the interior it was just magical. we were met by Carmel and her beautiful old english sheepdog Mason. We were here for 2 nights. On the second day we choose to go fishing. we went with Davey, the B&B owner. Davey took us to Carragh Lake, what an experience it was!!!
The scenery was breath taking and we had a picnic at the shore of the lake.

We were glad to return to our beautiful crafted room, and loved to just unwind in the fairytale setting this family has created.

Defiantly recommend staying here it was our favorite stop.

Room Tip: We were in room 4 and loved it. Garden View: Memorable.
