We cannot thank Carmel enough for the hospitality. First off, she went out and purchased a card and chocolates to leave in the room for my mom's birthday. Next, we had a bit of a hiccup when my mom fell and badly sprained her ankle. We pulled up right at 5pm and Carmel immediately called the doctor's office in Kenmare to make sure they stayed open so my mom could get an appointment. Then she hopped in our van and rode with us in to town to make sure we got to the right place in a timely fashion. We had 8 adults in our group. 4 of us ended up having to go up to the nearest hospital in Tralee, but for those who stayed behind, Carmel served tea and treats. Then when we did arrive, she gave us all a little glass of Bushmills that she had saved "for emergencies!" Her husband also is very very kind and has such interesting stories to share about fishing and hunting in the area. These hosts cannot be beat and their rate is beyond affordable. We are so grateful! And it was such a unique place to stay in a beautiful building with awesome crafstmanship.

This is a great little place to stay. I went here with my girlfriend who was not from Ireland and she found that it was a really fantastic little corner of Ireland and great demonstration of Irish heritage. The cottage looks like something from a hundred years ago however it is quite newly made and has modern comforts and artistic handmade furniture and details. The welcome from the owner Carmel was warm and genuine. The fluffy sheepdog (the only non-Irish concession!), chickens running free and beautiful garden added to the cosy atmosphere. The rates were very reasonable also. The only issue with this spot is that it is a five minute drive from Kenmare so a car is required. I would definitely stay here again though if I return to Kenmare.

I suppose there are always going to be people that have bad experiences, and one never knows if it's the place itself or some folks never being satisfied. Sometimes we have a tendency to look at what is wrong rather then right. With the cost of a room being as low as it is, I was a bit concerned about what my wife and I would experience. We were celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary. It was raining when we arrived and our first impression was one of old charm and warmth. The room was simple and delightful as you can see a lot of love and detail that went into making the room; the wood work is amazing. Bed was comfortable and the shower was good. Carmel made us feel right at home, introduced us to her lovely fluffy dog, asked if we needed anything and left us alone. The house itself is a piece of art, with all of the wood furnishings made by her husband with amazing skill with attention to details in the stone work and wall textures, etc. It was very impressive, and the grounds were beautiful, tucked away off the road a bit and very quiet. There is a tremendous amount of love there. You can feel it. We discovered that the location for traveling to Killarney, the Ring of Kerry, the Beara, Kenmare and the whole area was fantastic. Upon departure, she made us a wonderful Irish breakfast, fresh from her own garden and her own chickens....gotta love that! Upon departure, Carmel was very helpful with directions. Without her suggestions we would have made a miserable mistake, and she even gave us a few items from the kitchen for a little picnic later on. What a wonderful women. And this was the LEAST expensive place we stayed, I honestly don't know how she does it. If we were back in that area, we'd stay there with no hesitation.

Room Tip: None needed. It's all rather intimate.

I've been twice to this area and the Lissyclearig Thatched Cottage, pulls at my heartstrings every time, Carmel and Davey Breen have nurtured and expanded this buisiness with TLC. A huge amountof themselves is on offer, not only with the rooms, gardens, central location, 3KLM.from Kenmare.
What an experience the cottage is mainly hand crafted by Davey, a jovial friendly man willing to tell a tale or two, he is well matched by his lovely homely wife Carmel, nothing is a bother to ether of them, they aim to please!!
The Ring of Kerry is on thier doorstep, views are spectacular, a must stay and see for youself, Jim

This is a wonderful location for traveling to Killarney, the Ring of Kerry, the Beara, Kenmare and the whole area. Upon arrival one is taken by the charm of the grounds, the thatched house (which along with much of the furniture was built by Davey) the attention to detail in the stone work, wall textures, etc...even chickens in the yard. We were met by Carmel and given tea on arrival.
Our room was upstairs on the front and was clean, bright, and spacious. The shower had good pressure, however I had forgotten how towels dried on a clothesline have a rough texture. The bed was comfortable and the breakfast was good.
Carmel was very helpful with directions. Without her suggestions we would have missed the Gap of Dunloe/Black Valley which turned out to be a favorite experience of our two week trip. Look forward to staying there again.

This thatched cottage is all you could want it to be - but has a second level and all the amenities of modern comfort. The location is ideal as it is a beautiful seaside drive along the Ring of Kerry from Killarney and offers much to see of this gorgeous area. The cottage itself was built by the owner who is a mason and is full of charm and fun "finds" to make you smile!
The B&B's location is just outside the main town in a quiet, secluded area for a restful nights sleep. The town of Kenmare has great shopping, restaurants and boat trips nearby to visit an island of puffins called Skellig Michael and of course the harbour tour of the seal colony called Seafari...both worth taking the time to enjoy. Carmel, your hostess, is full of ideas about the area and very helpful with the bookings when necessary. Her breakfast is scrumptious and promises you will not be hunger until afternoon at the earliest! Don't miss taking a picture with Mason their sheepdog and see his tricks as well-he is a lovely big dog and just another plus of a visit to this B&B and I recommend highly and return to each time I am in the area.
