This place was a little gem. Beautiful decor, very welcoming, friendly and obliging hosts Neil and Noreen. Room was huge (our double) and our daughters very comfortable. Breakfast was a selection of some quite different courses to a normal " Irish" but included that. Also value for money was high on the list as we have paid more and had less value.

Room Tip: our room was 21 I think?????

Thank you Gypsy-Su for your very kind review. It was a great start to the New Year to have you and your family stay with us. Meeting such nice, fun people is why we keep on doing what we do. (Su - I found your gloves - please contact me with an address where I can send them to you). Happy Travelling... :)

The reviews gave us high hopes of a really good experience, but for us Virgina's fell far short of expectations.
We were 2 couples travelling together. Both rooms were very small and the decor lacklustre and uniteresting. The bathrooms too were tiny. Little things spoilt the accommodation - bedside lights not bright enough to read by, lights over the shower not working (in both rooms), the nice cushions and throws on the bed, that livened the room up, removed after day 1.
Tea and coffee was only available in a sitting room on the floor below our rooms, so no tea in bed in the morning.
The breakfasts were certainly unusual, if not quirky, but it was irritating to have to order our juice, starters etc the night before, as well as the main course, and to have to choose between brown bread and white toast (brown toast or white bread not available, which seemed a little bizarre). We also had to decide the night before what time we wanted to have our breakfast. The menu sounded very attractive, but there was virtually no fresh fruit available other than as garnish on a couple of the starters and portions were small. The food wasnt as good as it sounded. The atmosphere in the dining room very subdued and I didnt get the sense that many people were enjoying their meals.

This was just not the place for us and so, although we had booked for 3 nights we decided to move on after only 2. My husband explained very politely to Neil and we paid the full price for our 2 nights, even though we had booked a reduced price for the original 3. The worst was to come:

Unfortunately, in our hurry to leave, we left one of our bags behind. When we realised and I rang to ask for it to be put aside for us so we could return and collect it, Noreen subjected me to a torrent of abuse down the phone - apparently no-one had ever been dissatisfied before and she was outraged - she accused my husband of dreadful behaviour and made no attempt to apologise or get feedback as to why we had not enjoyed her hospitality. The following day I received a lengthy and even more abusive e-mail from her, containing threats of some undefined action against us. However, she did explain the lack of light in the showers - apparently it is only possible to change the bulbs at the end of the season when there are no guests in the hotel.
Having been to Virginia's I really do find it hard to reconcile our experience with that of most other reviewers.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front are noisy because of traffic and people coming out of bars/restaurants - its on t...

We'll try to make this short & sweet, first with a brief explanation to a couple of the more misleading statements. We are very proud of our breakfast and to say that white bread and brown toast were unavailable is incorrect. Fresh fruit is in abundance and any special requests are always catered for. The lights in the showers are not just a simple bulb replacement. They are full units embedded in the ceilings and will be replaced during our refurbishment period this winter. We never advertise our guesthouse as luxurious, just clean, comfortable and welcoming. However, it was obvious from the beginning that these people were looking for opulence. They showed no willingness to engage in any way with us and we found them to be dismissive when we attempted friendliness. In fact, it was quite upsetting and left us feeling rather bewildered. This reviewers husband was anything but polite on the morning that they checked out and threatened us with serious consequences if we attempted to charge them for the third night, even though they were clearly ignoring our cancellation policy. The email which was written to his wife the following day clearly stated that we do not take blackmail lightly and I informed her of our dissatisfaction at the behaviour of her husband. I have no regrets whatsoever for sending the email in question. We fully understand that not everybody will enjoy what we have to offer, but disrespectful behaviour cannot be tolerated.

It is no wonder that Noreen and Neil have won a "Host of the Year" award for 2011. Their hospitality ranks with the best that we have experienced over the years. Rooms were spacious and well appointed, but breakfasts were simply to die for. All of this at exceptional value for money. Unfortunately we only stayed for 2 nights, but we will definitely be going back again in 2013.

There is also the small matter that its location, in Kenmare, is an ideal place from which to explore the Beara Pensinsula and the Ring of Kerry.

We are just back from 6 weeks traveling in the UK and Ireland and this B&B stands out way above anywhere else that we stayed Friendly welcoming owners, Noreen and Neil, a great room and a welcoming cup of tea had us off to a great start. Water was hot, the room temperature perfect and we had a WONDERFUL and creative breakfast made in a TINY kitchen. They offer oatmeal (porridge) with an optional serving of Baileys (don't knock it until you try it!) and a wonderful creation with poached pears, blue cheese Brie on home made toast with a pear and tomato chutney. All this for the same price that we paid at several other B&Bs but way ahead of the rest in the overall experience. Truly outstanding.

What a lovely welcoming friendly Guest house, Neil went the extra mile finding out information for us trying to trace long lost relations. Noreen's breakfasts were out of this world so be prepared to gain a few extra pounds. Room was large clean and very comfortable. We loved Kenmare and wished we,d been able to stay longer will definitely have to go back.

From the moment we arrived we were made to feel really welcome. The place is a home away from home with a lovely comfortable library to sit in. Right on the main street, it is handy for all the pubs and restaurants. Neil and Noreen were wonderful hosts. Breakfast was lovely with some different tasty house specialties. Try the pears and blue cheese!
