Description: "Kenmare, in Co Kerry, has its unfair share of places to eat, but you'll miss one of its finest attractions if you confine yourself to the restaurants that feature in guide books. Wharton's Traditional Fish & Chips, in the town centre, is a gem. My cod was encased in the finest, lightest batter, into which crushed black peppercorns had been incorporated. It was so fresh I swear I saw it twitch as it hit the oil. The chips are hand-cut from potatoes that are, amazingly, chosen for their "fryability". And they have cider vinegar if you fancy a change from the stuff you usually get in chippers..." Tom Doorley (Irish Times)

“Great fish”
Reviewed September 20, 2013 via mobile

The best fish and chips in Kerry ,fresh from the sea . While walking around the town of Kenmare we stumbled on a fish and chip shop on the Main Street we decider to have in fish and chips for two as we had s big lunch . The fish wa so white and fresh and the chips crispy with lashings if salt and vinegary it was the real thing , we finished and found it hard no to go and order another round it was so good even that we were full to the brim .

“Best Fish and Chips Ever!”
Reviewed September 11, 2013

Stopped off in Wharton's, Kenmare for a fish and chip on the way to Glengariff. We had the battered hake and chips. They were truly awesome. Highly recommended as an alternative to stuffy restaurants serving inferior fish and charging a fortune...loved it!

“Ok fish and chips, but don't see what all the fuss is about.”
Reviewed September 8, 2013

We thought this place was ok, but far from the best fish and chips we have ever had. I had the batter hake, my wife had the battered cod, with a side order of coleslaw. Batter was crispy, but my hake was thick, and it didn't quick get cooked in the center...soft and kind of watery. Chips were ok, mushy peas were mushy peas. Have had better in England and Scotland...and maybe the US. In its favor is that is was inexpensive and clean, and the fish was nice and hot.

“Best Fish and Chips”
Reviewed September 5, 2013

Our B & B recommended Whartons. We enjoyed the food so much, we went back the next night to make sure it was that good. And it was. Simple menu, no beer or wine sales, just great fish and chips. Prices reasonable. Go here and you will be glad.

“Proper Fish "N" Chips”
Reviewed August 28, 2013

I love my fish and chips and having been here a few times now over the years, on my visits to Kenmare, I rank this place up there with the best!! Lovely fresh cooked fish and chips and can eat upstairs if you wish. We all loved it and the only shame is that we did not have enough time to return again!!
