We had two rooms- one in the coach house and one in the main lodge. Both were beautifully decorated. The art in this home is exquisite. Lots of great books on Ireland- we had complimentary tea and bread while we sat in the lounge. The breakfasts were truly amazing. Close to town and I loved Tom & Maura (and her sister). They are classy innkeepers who have a history I'd have loved to have learned more about. I could have stayed here a month but only had two nights.

Room Tip: Coach house was my favorite

We enjoyed a two night stay with Moira and Tom at Shelburne Lodge. The home is beautiful, filled with antiques and beautifully decorated with fresh flowers in our room, which was very clean and roomy. There is a lovely drawing room and library as well as large dining rooms. The food! Our breakfast menu was extensive, and all of it wonderful. The fruit compotes, crab cakes, full Irish breakfast, and more. Our hosts were helpful and so nice. Kenmare has a real jewel here!

We really enjoyed our stay here, with breakfast being the best part - amazing crab cakes, thanks Maura! We booked at the last minute, and could only get a room in the coach house. The room was spacious (it was a triple room) and the bed comfortable. We didn't use the reading area downstairs in the coach house, as it had a "musty/damp" smell, but the reading room in the main house was very pleasant. One thing we missed was not having access to complimentary tea/coffee, even if it could be available in a common area like the dining room.

Maura runs a very professional operation. Staff are very welcoming. Everything is of a luxurious standard. The breakfast is arguably the best there is available. The lounge is well appointed and relaxing. Any easy walk to town.

Room Tip: They all looked good

We chose to stay in the quaint town of Kenmare while visiting the Ring of Kerry & Killarney National Park. The lodge is the perfect home base to both of these. Shelburne Lodge (c. mid-18th century) was the first home built in Kenmare for Lord Shelburne prime minister of Great Britain for a time. The lodge is very charming. A Georgian farmhouse & gardens. The house is covered in vines which really adds to the beauty of the property. The main house has a large sitting room with fireplace. Adjacent to that are two rooms used as dining rooms. Guest rooms are upstairs. We stayed in the separate but attached garden coachhouse. Our entry was through the garden which was lovely. We also entered the main building on the same garden path. Our coachhouse had two guest rooms on the second floor with a small sitting room on the first floor. The sitting room had a sofa area & dining table to share. Our room was at the top of the narrow stairway. The room was spacious & very quiet. We had a double bed & two single beds. The heater & heated towel bar worked very well on those cold mornings. The free wifi worked well in the main house but spotty in our room which is understandable in a historic property. Every morning a delicious home made breakfast was served. Whatever fresh fish served is outstanding. The pancakes are my spouses favorite pancake of all time. The fresh yogurt with honey & nuts is incredibly delicious. One day we had Whiskey cream in our coffee & porridge..yum. The hosts Maura & Tom are the most gracious hosts. So helpful with everything & really make you feel at home..like family. The lodge is a short 10 minute walk on a paved sidewalk to the Main Street with great shops & restaurants. Maura & Tom are happy to offer advice & make reservations. We dined before 6pm without any problem being seated promptly. The lodge also has plenty of parking. We walked to all the historic sites in Kenmare as well. Very convenient drive to the Ring of Kerry & Killarney National Park. Tom gave us maps & great advice on both destinations.
