It's not often that I write reviews about places, but having just spent a lovely weekend down in the Kenmare Bay Hotel I feel the place warrents it!! I took my wife away as a surprise for our 5th wedding anniversary, and chose Kenmare as we have never been there and love trying new places. I was not disappointed with either the hotel or the town itself.

The hotel is situated a short walk from Kenmare town with great views of the surrounding countryside. On check in (which was done in a professional and friendly manner, despite the mixed reviews from others) we were delighted with our room. Having made some grave errors on hotel accommodation in the past for our anniversary, I was a bit nervous as to what the standard would be, but our room was bright, modern, clean, with a great big bathroom and all the mod-cons you would expect in a contempory hotel. We also had a great view, which was an added bonus.

During our stay we found the reception staff to be courteous, helpful and full of local knowledge and recommendations. One of the girls in particular recommended a great restaurant in town called Mulcahys, and proceeded to make reservations for us. It definately is a must visit place for any foodies out there!

On our second night there, we dined in the restaurant in the hotel and I can honestly say I couldn't find a fault with anything. The menu was well priced, varied and accompanied by a decent wine list. Again, we found the service staff friendly and professional.

One of the great advantages of the hotel is the leisure centre and spa. My wife got the full works in the spa while I enjoyed the pool. It did get busy but this was to be expected given the fact that the hotel seemed to be full that weekend.

All in all, we had a fantastic anniversary in the Kenmare Bay hotel, and would definately plan a return trip in the future.

We came here for a weekend away. When we arrived we were shown to our room wich was average but clean. The bathroom was new, wich always feels good!

We spent some time in the pool, and a treat was the childrens pool which our year old daughter enjoyed so much we had trouble getting her out of it!

Dinner and breakfast was a pleasant experience. The waiting staff was very helpful and the food was what you expect.

All in all we had a really relaxing experience. Everybody was very helful and the place was clean and tidy at all times!

Went to visit friends in Kerry and were recommended this hotel as it was close to everything.
Have to say our stay was top class, from the minute we arrived we were made feel welcome. Told of all the facilities in the hotel, leisure centre and everything. Decided to have food in the bar when we arrived because we were meeting our friends for dinner that night.
Food choices were great and all served very quickly by friendly staff. Reception organised taxi for us later that evening and we had great night in the town,
Breakfast next morning was just what we needed after night out celebrating and obviously like most hotels at 10.30on a saturday morning it was mad busy but there were plenty of staff on hand to look after everyone.
Reception staff were extremely courteous and friendly on check out even advising us of upcoming special offers they have.
I am looking forward to going back in the new year with the family cos they have great facilities for kids so will definitley be in touch about those specials.

We stayed in the hotel over the last weekend in August 09. Staff were friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The room was beautiful and very clean, well maintained by staff. The views and locale of the hotel were breathtaking being in the vicinity of the Ring of Kerry and Kenmare Town centre. Highly recommended to all!!!! Especially families with young children.

My wife and I love to walk / hike and because of this Kenmare is one of our favorite destinations for a weekend break of walking and relaxing. The location of this hotel is excellent as it is very close to the town centre, there is a pathway that leads from the hotel towards the town. The hotel itself very contemporary with nice decor throughout. The rooms were very good and were quite spacious we stayed in a superior room which was very reasonable. The restaurant food was excellent, I had the kenmare bay sole the first night we stayed which was delicious and perfectly cooked, we also had a great view of the kerry mountains from our table which added to our dining experience. The facilities here are very good and we both enjoyed the swimming pool and sauna (great way to start or end a day of walking). My wife treated herself to a beauty treatment which she found to be very good. Over all this hotel has everything that you would want for a weekend stay / short break. The rooms, food and facilties were all excellent making for a very enjoyable stay. We will definitely stay again in the Kenmare Bay for our next short break to kenmare.

Horrible Experience:

English girl with blonde hair at reception tried to overcharge us.

Pete the Barman was absolutely horrible throughout our meal and in general the staff made this uncomfortable.

12 of us stayed here as part of a hill walking tour of Kerry and it was marvellous, the food in the hotel was outstanding and quality and service did not suffer even when the dining room was full. The rooms and leisure centre were top class and the location was as close to the town centre as you would want. We stayed in recently renovated spacious rooms but the holiday homes looked even better and we may try them next time. Friendly staff, great food (in a town noted for its cuisine) and the right price, there are no other hotels with pools in Kenmare without spending a fortune and the Kenmare Bay is in a better location in the heart of the town, we will be back.
