“Kenmare Stay.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 27, 2013

We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights during a weeks stay in Kerry. We received a friendly welcome and the reception area was neat and tidy.
Our room was on the bottom floor of three which meant we could park outside the window and pass our bags in which saved us walking around!! The room was very comfotable and had a good choice of hot drinks. The TV had plenty of channels, a plus with the fickle Irish weather. The bathroom was clean but had yellow water in the bath, thankfully I've seen this a few times before so know that it's harmless, probably from the pipes?
The leisure centre provides towels to guests, you just sign in. The time we went the pool was very busy as it was school holidays, and there was never a space in the very small jacuuzi in the hour we were there. The steam room was excellent, just the right temperature. Lockers needed a €2 coin, but this was returned when you collect your things.
Breakfast is a buffet where you choose what you want. This does cause queues both to get seated and to select what you want. The quality of food was good too. One of the mornings I was hungover and was allowed to take a breakfast sandwich to my room to eat later, some places would frown upon this, here it was no problem.
I think the sign saying 3 minutes walk to town must've been measured by Usain Bolt as it is more like 10-15, however, it does save you walking all the way around the main entrance. The short cut also has lots of flowers and wildlife so is a bonus.
In summary, a comfortable stay, and a great base for exploring Kenmare and the surrounding Kerry area.

Stayed here at the beginning of August and I have to say that I was very impressed! The room was very spacious with everything laid on. Didn't get to use the leisure centre but heard from other guests that it was super. Have to say though that the breakfast staff were exceptional. We came down early and were taken care of by Shauna who has certainly a striking personality. We will definitely be returning!! Thank you

I stayed with family on the third night of my stay in Kenmare. we had one of the lodges i taught the house really clean and sound proof. everything from the beds to the carpets to the couches were comfortable. although we found the price to be expensive we had enough people coming and going that between us all it was very cheap. we were able to use to pool and steam room etc. which was nothing but Fab!

Room Tip: new part of the hotel have bigger more modern rooms. old part has very basic rooms.

Hotel is situated in a lovely scenic location, the staff for the most part are friendly and helpful. Our room was nice and airy. However, we thought that the drinks prices were very expensive when compared to other equally graded hotels. €4.80 for a Guinness and €5.20 for a sherry is a bit steep.
The lift was also out of order which made it awkward carrying luggage etc. Little improvements in soft things can make this a lovely hotel to visit. I would recommend it but was a little dissatisfied.

Dear Guest,

Many thanks for your recent review. We apologiser that a few things let you down during your stay with us. We investigated your comment in regarding our drink prices. However, this could have been a human error overcharge as our prices were €4.20 for a pint of Guiness and €4.50 for a glass of Sherry .
Our apologies that our lift was out of order during your stay. This was a breakdown and was repaired the same day.

We hope to welcome you back in the future.

Yours sincerely,

Stayed here for 4 nights in one of the lodges. Nothing to complain about. House very well laid out , very modern, clean with all mod cons . Staff very helpful. Stayed in alot of self catering accomodation over the years but this is most deffinately the best. Dont Know what people moan about. would stay here again. Well Done

Room Tip: Lodges are fantastic value for money.

Stayed in Kenmare bay hotel for one night this August with my family, very nice reception area lots of lovely areas to sit in and relax. Very nice room, comfy and clean and bathroom excellent with seperate bath and shower very handy for a family. Pool is lovely, not very big but clean and well supervised with lots of hot water in showers. Visited kids club room but not occupied at time and thought it very small with unpleasant smell near corridor which seemed to serve as mud room so didn't bother availing of the service which carries an extra charge. Bar area is adequate but not very welcoming, food for kids not up to much, the usual processed chicken nuggets etc. Hubby and I ate in restaurant, food very average, nicely presented but lacking in real taste, breakfast ok, buffet of cooked food unappetitising, just not great quality products used, however lovely selection of pastries. Overall a comfortable stay but quality of food needs to be improved.

Room Tip: When ringing told all family rooms booked but stayed in triple room with added camp bed which was st...

It's not often I write a review before I leave but I feel it's necessary in this case. We're just back to our room having had our last dinner in the hotel before leaving tomorrow. I can't say enough about the staff in this hotel. It's a lovely hotel in a beautiful part of County Kerry & an excellent base for seeing the area. However this hotel has definitely made the holiday for us. Friendly, efficient staff who go the extra mile has made all the difference here. I would strongly recommend this hotel to anyone travelling to this part of Ireland. The food was the icing on the cake both at breakfast & the nights we had our dinner in both the restaurant & bar. Again my very highest compliments to all the staff who made sure that the Kenmare Bay Hotel is a true gem. Thanks again
