Folks Im a regular diner in Kenmare, and have eaten in Charcoal recently. However having not been in the area in 2012, on Saturday last I returned to Charcoal to feed a meat craving. The experience was outstanding from start to finish. Staff are excellent - really pleasant. Atmosphere is nice and relaxed with an interesting balance being struck between the fomal and the casual. The food was incredible and deserved a review. Melt on the mouth steak, with cracking accompaniments! Booking is probably to be advised at the weekend. But get thee to Charcoal if in Kenmare!

Upon entering this restaurant, we were enveloped in the warm and cozy atmosphere. Funky, chunky wood furniture, candlelight and soft music.
The varied menu gave everyone, in our party of three, plenty of choice.
My husband started with the homemade minestrone soup, which was delicious and filling, and served with bread. We ordered three appetizers to sample and share. Prawns in coconut sauce, stuffed mushrooms and sweet chili chicken wings gave us each a taste and we loved them all.
For entrees we ordered the potato crusted cod, steak and prawns, and oven roasted parmesan chicken. After more sampling of each others food, we devoured our selections amidst much "mmm's" and "ahh's" .
From the dessert menu we ordered the lemon tart, sticky toffee pudding and the chocolate fondant. Because choosing one was so difficult, we shared and sampled again. Decadent and delicious.
The serving staff were attentive and cheerful, and knowledgeable of the menu.
Can't say enough about the delicious food.

The restaurant is just off one of the main streets in a side alley, so it didn't feel as touristy as some of the other restaurants in town. The meal was done exactly as I asked. The server was polite and quick with her service. The meal was well priced. I would come again to this restaurant.

we 4 intended golfers,-stayed at the sunnyhill Grove Holiday homes-the caretaker had the heat on for us.While the country was drowning in rain -we had 2 teeshirt sunny days in Kenmare.!! We had a really good dinner at the Charcole Steakhouse.Proceeding to Florry Batts pub ,via Crowley's,-we tried a coctail at the Horseshoe Bar.Next morning we had a wonderfull breakfast in the Landsdown hotel. One of my friends who has many resraurants,-went out of his way to compliment the place and food to the staff.
The people in the Kenmare Golf club looked after us very well.
We bought meat in the local Kenmare butcher ,who told us the steaks were from his own well hung cattle!-
After coffee and buns in one of the many cafe's-we headed for more adventure, staying in Caherdaniel and playing WatervilleGC.
