We stayed at this hotel for a three night break. In summary the food, staff, bed rooms, common areas and grounds are all amazing. I would highly recommend this hotel to any couple who are seeking a relaxing break.

My family stayed here recently for a birthday celebration and overall we had a grand time. Our rooms were beautiful overlooking the falls and the suites were magnificent. We were celebrating a birthday and booked dinner for the Saturday night. We found the menu bizarre with same price items having different supplements etc but more importantly the food and service were both average for the price. Overall we were pleased with the hotel mostly on account of the beautiful location and wonderful rooms. Some of the staff however could do with a bit more customer relations skills.

First, I was very disappointed in the transportation. We wanted to go to dinner in town, but the hotel would not provide service, even though they had cars available. We called a cab to go there, but had to walk home 35 minutes in the cold back to the hotel. The dining room was very sterile, with no personality. We were the only ones in there one night, but the staff seemed to want to rush us out of there. The spa had only one technician, so appointments were hard to come during the 4 days we were there for 2 people- had to go to a neighboring hotel for service.
The room was old and tired feeling. Everything was in desperate need of an upgrade. Our room view was beautiful, however.
All in all not what I expect from a 5 star hotel, with the prices to match!

This hotel appears to have been built in 1991 and it feels it.
The main problem is that the hotel has no character or atmosphere. The decor is confused - it doesn't have an old lodge feeling to it, nor is it a modern hotel, it's more like a business/conference hotel. The decor throughout is old fashioned, which would be fine if it all blended well together, but you get the feeling it has been done up piecemeal, so you have some modern fabrics/furniture with some business/conference hotel fabrics mixed with old-world brass curtain rails and antique-like furniture.
We were shown to our first room which was a great distance from reception - always a bad sign - it was quite nice, but very sterile and was being heated by a plug in bar heater. The room felt chilly and the view from the window was out onto the corridor that led to the room. We asked to be moved to a room that was less 'businessy'. So we were moved to a room which was no less businessy in decor, but was above the main lobby on the 3rd floor and overlooking the bay at the front of the hotel which was a big improvement. Our room is shown on the hotel's website as a Deluxe Room. I felt that the bathroom was a bit naff and old fashioned - green and grey marble with silver & imitation gold fittings. It reminded me of the TV series Dallas.
The pool and spa area were very disappointing, the standard has just gone way up in terms of hotel pools etc, so again this would have been state of the art in 1991, but it is now 2009. The steam room is like a steam capsule and seats 4 people. The pool heater wasn't working when we were there, so it was too cold to swim.
I guess if you're away with work at a conference, this hotel would be just fine.
But if you are after a relaxing break in the country, there are better places to go with more atmosphere.
This hotel would be perfectly adequate and a good 4*, but you expect that bit more from a 5*. No nice touches like a sweet on our pillow at turn-down!
With so many nice hotels around the country now, you could get better value elsewhere. I recommend Rathmullan in Donegal, Moy House in Clare, Renvyle House in Galway or Solis Lough Eske (even though the latter has no character either, it is state of the art).
Finally we ate in Mulcahy's in Kenmare town and that was fab.

Absolutely beautiful hotel & grounds. Our spacious room had a view of the falls; the room & bathroom was luxurious. Deep tub. Extremely comfortable beds with fluffy pillows; spacious closets, plasma tv, elegant & tasteful decor. Immaculate & bright. Staff was friendly & accommodating Grounds were great for walking & views, including a woodlands walk. Flowers & plants & waterview just stunning outside. Casual dinner was a bit on the slow side & overpriced ($70 + tax for 1 adult & 1 child), but breakfast really made up for it. Breakfast was scrumptious in every way....located in spectacularly sunny room overlooking the falls, with peaceful background music; selection was amazing; service was excellent & food--breads, french toast, fruits were delicious. Pool was sparkling clean & well-designed....has waterfall in it to soothe your back & a nice deep hot jacuzzi nearby, steam room & pool-side chaises to watch the birds at the feeder outside. Pool attendant was so friendly...she asked us where we were headed to next, so I pulled out our map & she ended up giving us great travel tips. Loved this place! Great for kids or for a romantic get-away.

Really looking forward to this stay, and we were not disapointed. We were accompanied to our room - though carrying our own baggage, which was fine - and while the couple checking in ahead of us were upgraded, our room was large and had a great view of the waterfall. We asked for a dinner reservation at Oscars Bistro on site, however this is apparently shut down at present, so we booked the casual dining option in the lounge bar. Luckily for us this was overbooked so we were "bumped up" to the main formal restuarant while still choosing from the casual menu. The food was absolutely gorgeous, though the service was a little ...random - white wine is taken away to chill and not necessarily topped up when your glass is running low. Still , the Lamb was perfect and the pianist managed to sneak in a Nirvana cover into his mellow set !!!
Breakfast consisted of a massive buffet plus hot breakfast to order - all excellent quality. Grounds and garden walks are great for fresh air afterwards so bring a change of shoes.
It is worth heading into Kenmare for a night - big choice of restuarants (Mulcahys for us) and a few old style bars too. Taxi's are steep at €7 each way.
Leisure centre is small but clean and the little pool is spotless and warm.
We came away longing to stay longer and we will be back.

My auntie took myself & my Mam to this hotel for a treat one weekend in July. The hotel is set on lovely grounds, about 30mins drive from Killarney. If you are looking for peace & quite, this hotel is perfect. The staff were very friendly. Our room was huge & overlooked the waterfall, which was really nice. There are no tea & coffee making facilities in the room or mini bar. The bathroom was also really big. The hairdryer in our bathroom was broken, it was taped up with masking tape & we reported it & we were told there was a spare hairdryer in one of the drawers. When a member of staff brought our bags to our room we did ask for a bucket of ice & 3 glasses as we had a bottle of champagne with us, after about a half hour there was no sign of this & a lady knocked on our room to ask was everything & could she do anything for us, we told her that we had asked for the buiket of ice & she told me that I would have to ring the bar, as this was not her area!!! Anyway, we just ready & headed into the town of Kenmare. Its a great spot, very lively. We had breakfast the next morning which was very nice. We were booked into the Spa at different times. We were very disappointed with this, I was getting a manicure & my Mam was getting a Pedicure & we were both in the same room, they didnt know that we were together, they tell you to come to the spa a few min's before hand to relax, but we were left sitting at the chairs at the desk, which wasnt very relaxing.
The changing room for the swimming pool was tiny, the bathroom in our room was bigger, it was a major let down. No lockers or even baskets for you to put your belongings in. The pool is also small, you wouldnt be going down for a good swim, we just had a paddle, the jacuzzi was out of order. I'd say we spent about 30mins in the leisure centre, that was with getting undressed & dressed again. Our meal in the restaurant that night was really nice, but the waiter reminded us that it was his birthday, we kinda thought he was dropping a hint so that we would give him a tip, but we didnt leave a tip, in fact I think my aunt said there was a service charge on the bill.
On checking out my aunt checked her bill & discovered that she was charged for drinks that we didnt have on the Friday when we arrived, there was an orange juice & pints of Guinness on it, we actually paid cash for our drinks on the Friday, lucky we kept the receipts.
