There is no finer hotel in Ireland than Sheen Falls Lodge. Unpretentious, elegant and with superb staff and Michelin standard food. Visiting a few days after Christmas to celebrate my partners birthday was the perfect end to the year. Thanks to all, especially Clodagh who gave us such help whilst making our reservation. We hope to see you very soon.

Recently had dinner in the Cascade Restaurant. The setting was very nice and so were all of the staff. The Dining Room, is very nice, but in need of a total re do. The food was good but not exceptional. I must say that the starter I had being the Scallops was Excellent. For main course I had fillet of steak and it was very average and so was the dessert. The reception area looks very tired with common green carpet and the bar area was just okay.

This is a hotel that needs a big investment to bring it back up to 5*. Currently its rating would the somewhere between 3.5 & 4*.

This is not a cheap hotel, so we did expect first class food, which we cannot say for the main course.

Dear Group T,

So happy that you enjoyed your meal for the most part and that you were really well looked after by our team here. Sorry that the surroundings were not to your liking and we appreciate the feedback. Please do keep in touch as we are working through a full refurbishment over the next few months on and off, we can only work at times the hotel is not operational, till Spring of 2015.

I will pass on your comments to our chef

We rented a gorgeous 4 bed house in Mountainview, Sheen Falls Estate & Country Club. We've stayed in the lodge itself several times in the past which we really love, but with friends and kids in our group this weekend, we decided a house would probably be better. We were obviously a bit worried that it might be a lesser experience than staying in the lodge itself, but we needn't have worried. It was seamless. We had full use of the pool and spa, we could charge everything we wanted (drinks, meals & spa treatments) to our bill, the house was warm and luxurious (even the bedlinen was branded Sheen Falls).

The service in the hotel was as good as if we were in the Presidential Suite of the lodge itself. No second class citizen feeling whatsoever. That was really appreciated.

One of the highlights was meeting Joyce, the horse riding lady. She was just super with the kids on our family ride-out. She chatted about all her animals (she has a menagerie) and she didn't bat an eyelid when our youngest needed a loo break on the side of the road, just 10 minutes into the ride-out.

So, I can heartily recommend wherever you decide to stay in Sheen Falls. It is simply sublime.

Room Tip: Mountainview houses are lovely. If you're staying in the lodge the rooms overlooking the front a...

We decided to treat ourselves for our anniversery and stayed here last year, it's not cheap but boy was it worth it. The customer service was 1st class, the room was lovely, the setting was fantastic and the food and facilities were great. Put it this way we hope to go again this year for our next anniversery, I think that says it all!

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the river, it's beautiful; the river rapids are a bit noisy though so if you a...

We came during midterm and stayed in one if the lodges on the grounds of the hotel ..
Couldn't fault it. 3 bedroom, with all mod cons. Very bright and spacious and lovely views. The staff in the hotel were very accommodating.
There was so much to do despite the rain. We sat in sitting room and played chess and cards.
The swimming pool provided endless fun. We will definitely be back and soon.

Just back from staying at the Sheen Falls. The best thing about the hotel was the staff. They were friendly, helpful and professional. Our room was nice , balcony overlooking the river (The 'falls' are more rapids than a waterfall) and a good ensuite. Dinner was good and a nice breakfast. However, I was expecting some where with character and this doesn't have any. The whole place is dated and needs to be redecorated. Its all very bland. The dining room and corridors particularly are like a medium three star hotel. It is certainly not a five star hotel. It needs a lot of money poured into it to live up to its portrayed image of an old hunting lodge. It was built just over 20 years ago and is in need of an interior and exterior redesign. So much for thinking I was going to a hotel with history! Fluffy bath robes and slippers doth not a five star hotel make.

Room Tip: If you are staying choose a room overlooking the river with a balcony.

Dear Deisequeen,

I greatly appreciate the time you have taken to write a review on your recent visit. Its fantastic that you were so well looked after by my colleagues and that was the best element of your stay as well as our wonderful food for dinner & breakfast.

Fortunately Given the time of year that the we had such dry weather during your visit -exploring the beautiful countryside around Kenmare must have been glorious.

We stayed at this hotel for a wedding in December and the weather, setting and all the gorgeous Christmas decorations and trees scattered all around the hotel, all added to the magic of a Xmas wedding. My only issue was how outdated the room was. The taps on the sink were not attached properly, the bath water came out brown and dirty and then the plug didn't work properly so it kept draining away. However, all the staff at the hotel were extremely helpful and friendly. I would recommend to stay here, but have a shower instead of a bath ! I would totally recommend as a wedding venue as the wedding was absolutely gorgeous as was all the food etc and I know most of that was down to the staff at the hotel!
