Fresh from a dissapointing chowder in Castletownbere we were really looking for a meal worthy of the seafaring tradition of the South West. We'd eyed up Sailor's Bar as we passed the neat cove it stands on, only a few km from our lodgings. It's a cosy tasteful pub with great outdoor eating space.
At first their menu seems like the usual pub fare with a few obvious local additions but we were delighted to be shown to their impressive and extensive specials board. We looked no further than the seafood platter based on reviews and our mission to cram as much seafood into our mouths as time would allow. We weren't dissapointed!
We were served a generous platter of crab claws, smoked salmon, mussels (served in two ways), prawns, and minced crab meat. All of these delights lay seductively on a bead of various types of salad, each crafted to compliment the variety of different sea flavours.
Friendly and prompt service, beautiful location, and money well spent.
