“Friendly staff and great food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 18, 2014

We booked dinner here very last minute, on Valentines night, having driven down from Limerick that evening. I was surprised they were able to fit us in as they are top rated here on trip advisor. But they had a slot for us and we took it. Everything was just lovely. The waitress was really friendly and attentive, and even recommended some places for us to try later on for drinks. The starters were good but the mains were amazing - we both had chicken and it was the nicest we've ever had. It is a little pricey but I think it's worth it. I would definitely come back.

“A Not-to-be-missed Restaurant”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 13, 2014

Packies is the restaurant of choice when Kenmare locals want to celebrate a special occasion. No wonder! For lack of a better superlative, the centrally-located eatery is superb. The food is fresh and prepared with the greatest of finesse and care, the staff is attentive without being obtrusive, and the space is warm and cozy. The melt-in-your-mouth scallops that I enjoyed for dinner were fresh-caught that afternoon in nearby Kenmare Bay. Packies is only open for dinner, so be sure to make reservations in advance. Your visit to Kenmare will not be complete until you dine at Packies.

“Unimpressed!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 10, 2014

You know you're in for a completely different restaurant experience when opening the entrance door the first piece of cabinetry you glance at quintuples as a reception desk, service counter, used plate, glassware drop-off area, bar and pantry. Maybe it was a harbinger of things to come!
Offered two seating options and chose the more packed better atmosphere section (option 2) that was occupied by just 4 large parties. I suddenly felt sorry for the deuces and fours occupying the ancillary dining area (option 1) as they seemed ostracized by a load bearing wall and their only connection to the adjoining area's activity was the foot traffic to the restroom?
After Rigs and Jeels we were seated refectory style and more again if another diner wanted to use the facilities or if you wanted your food served to you directly rather than via a third party! And on and on. Now I felt that I was back in school with the scurrying, the frenzy, the constant requests from adjacent tables for service yet it all seemed to flow as the waitresses with their school mistress control of the situation took orders, explained the menu and calmed the neophytes! It’s supposed to be about the food but you’re going to need a drink after all of this “Belles of St. Trinians” nonsense. Not a chance! Gee, why don’t they put the large private parties in a private dining room away from everyone else so that they don’t become the centre of attention and marginalize the rest of the diners?
Anyways, we hoped the food would be good. That's what the book said! It was fine. The service also fine but the place is a mess, the restaurant's emphasis is......................? We have no idea?

“Fabulous restaurant”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 10, 2014

Dined in packies on a recent trip to Kenmare and were so happy we did, had goats cheese salad to start and monkfish for mains, enjoyed every mouthful. My friends also enjoyed there meals, a great menu to choose from. The waitresses were so friendly, and a lovely relaxed atmosphere, Kenmare really is the place to go for really good food.
