“Average for Kenmare”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 17, 2012

Stayed here last Christmas, and found it just average.

The reason I'm writing this review is that I can see three recent reviews from people who have only ever made one review on Tripadvisor.

It is strange to get three fairly glowing reviews like that. The earlier poor ones were from people who have made many reviews.

As I said, I found it average for Kenmare. Downside was location so far from centre. Also, the houses are older than holiday home estates like say Orchard Grove, which is aslo much closer to town. The plus is that bargain rates were available -not sure if that's still the case.

I highly recommend the Kenmare Holiday Homes. The house was luxurious and clean. The host was super helpful on our arrival and helped us with requests on our first day. I am living in South Africa with my girlfriend so it was a real treat to visit Kenmare during the Food Festival on July 14th, there were pop up restaurants on the street and great deals in the restaurant at night - it was great to show off the culinary delights of Ireland. Eating out has come a long way in Ireland, both of us were greatly impressed! There was a great atmosphere in the town during our two days there. The rental house was also conveniently close to the town so we could walk home at night so this was a bonus - no ringing after the pub for a taxi! It was also a good base to see the ring of kerry. I would definitely stay here again and we will have many fond memories of our weekend in Kenmare.

My girlfriend and I went here for and extended break over the June bank holiday weekend. We are surprised at the bad review as the modern cottage we stayed in had everything we needed. We were very pleased with the cottage itself as it rained fully for one of the days, we stayed in and found it cosy, relaxing and clean. On the third day it rained again so we headed to Killarney, only 25 minutes away. We are hill walkers so I would recommend this property to anyone looking to walk the Kerry Way, it is so close. The property is also a short walk to the restaurants, traditional pubs and art galleries. This is what is great about Kenmare – strolling in to town and not worrying about the drive home! We also found the landlady of the cottages very hospitable and couldn’t do enough for us. We will definitely go back to stay here for an extended beak again.

I Recently stayed in the Kenmare holiday village from Australia and I must say my experience was nothing like the previous reviews.

I stayed for one week in May the weather was beautiful which made my stay in Kenmare even more enjoyable.
The location is good for taking in the ring of Kerry and it is very central for all trips around Kerry.

I found my cottage to be very comfortable and pleasant. Although basic It has all the amenities you would expect in a renting accommodation.
We found the staff to be extremely helpful and when we arrived we received a real Irish welcome.

Over all I had an amazing visit and I would not hesitate to recommend these cottages my friends visiting from Australia in the future.

Room Tip: Try to request a cottage to the back of the holiday village because the view of the mountains and lo...

Nice rural location on edge of Kenmare town!
Not a 4 star property by far!
Modern relatively clean, nearly fully functioning holiday cottages, in an estate of at least 60, 4 cottage terraced, three bedroomed properties. Single room is just a box room. Plenty of room downstairs!
Window blinds need attention and erection in Kitchen and shower drainage in en-suite non-existant.
All crockery and glassware is chipped, saucepans have loose handles and are chipped, so be careful when cooking!! Few and mixed cutlery spread about the kitchen!
All electric appliances; Cooker, Microwave, Dishwasher, Fridge, Water Heating, Fan Heating, Fire, Showers etc so be prepared if a powercut occurs and note electric is paid for separately at end of stay, in addition to accomodation costs!
Quite a distance from the town centre along a main carridgeway with no street lighting along 75% of the stretch (nearly 2 miles) and no footpaths on unlevel ground.
Very dark on the 'Estate' at night very few street lights so be careful!
However plenty of parking but quite a distance from the properties across grass and some deep gravel paths but not direct (50 yards) multi-levelled thus several flights of steps.
TV is poor quality and reception! only 4 local stations. Radio equally poor! so take some good books!
Rubbish disposal is a long trek across the opposite side of the site so set off early! Unless you get the cottage next door to it of course! ;-)
Toilet downstairs can be heard across town for a minute or two when flushed! this applies to all cottages! Known in our cottage as the 'Toilet Monster'!
Very small back garden just grass, very small patio (2 by 6 slabs) and washing line not pretty! Beyond site are industrial units and estates. Depending which part of site you are on it can be in shade all day! Ours was!
Front is communal ground immediately outside cottages but is planted in places!
To end our stay we had to get the laundry ready for washing by stripping all the beds - have never had to do that before in self-catering! If they halfed the price I could understand why!
If you want a remote cottage then this would suit, if you were not too fussy!
Not for me again though :-( way too expensive!

We stayed in a few holiday homes in Kerry, Ireland, this summer (2011) and paid most for our week at Kenmare Holiday Village. Yet it was by far the worst. Only very basically clean, and lots of things not working properly - the worst shower ever, toilets that take a half hour before you can flush again, spider webs on cupboard shelves, chair seats dirty, strange smell throughout. The tv reception is almost nil - only ok if you sit holding the aerial at a particular angle... Would never stay here again or recommend to anyone else.

We had a very similar experience to the above review. Stayed for 1 week. The location is great as it's only a 10 min walk from the town centre and there's lots to do in the area, especially for children. However, the house was rated as a 4 star cottage which it is most definately is not, it would be more accurate to rate it as just scraping a 3 star. The house wasn't awful but it did need a good cleaning- the mat in the sitting room obviously hadn't been cleaned, the fridge was dirty, mirrors, fireplace and t.v. were covered in smears and there were stains and crayon marks on the walls. None of these things were a major problem but it give the impression of the house being slightly grubby. Also, there were things broken - blinds in bedroom were broken, as was the oven.Good sized bedrooms with comfortable beds. Overall. it was a very average experience -with a little effort and attention though it could have been improved. Like the review above we got it for a discounted price but had we paid full price we would have been disapointed.
