“I wanted to move in permanently....”
Reviewed November 10, 2012

The Park Hotel Kenmare is a stunning traditonal hotel. I travel a lot for business as well as personally and visited last month on a personal trip with four friends from New York. One of the couples had stayed there before and raved about it. Their comments were absolutely correct. This hotel would top any list of hotel categories. It feels as though you are staying in someone's very grand country house. No reception desk as in a typical hotel. You are greeted as you walk in the door into a very luxurious yet small reception area with a glowing fire and the process of "checking in" just seemed to happen.

My room was lovely - very well-appointed separate seating area, very comfortable bed, great linens and, unusual for Ireland and England (at least in my experience), very good lighting. The desk was roomy and the internet connection great.

The bar and adjoining seating area are beautiful, overlooking gardens and water. We were there in cooler weather and there was always a fire on.

The dining room, with very large windows, also overlooking the gardens and water, is beautiful, day and evening. Breakfast was out of this world as was dinner - great menu and wine list. The service in the dining room is impeccable.

Aside from all of the above that was perfect think I must comment that this hotel has the finest staff I have experienced. Everyone from reception through bar and waitstaff were all the best I have seen. On our second evening the bartender approached us, mentioned what we had ordered the night before and asked if we would like the same again.

As mentioned, I was there with friends but think it would be a wonderful place for a romantic get-away.

I can't say enough good things about the Park Hotel Kenmare that could do justice to the experience.... just go and see for yourself.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the water. I overlooked the spa and could only view water if I stepped o...

Stayed in this hotel during the summer. Overall very disappointed. All staff were charming and courteous. The hotel once had old world charm which has now turned to neglect, frayed lining in the curtains in lounge, damp stain on chair on 3 rd floor hallway, damp spot behind radiator in our room, creaking floorboards, not exactly wheelchair friendly with bits of steps up/down to negotiate on the 3rd floor. Car park is a disaster with no tarmac. No tea/coffee making facilities in the room which added to the bill for us. Pillows were so flat , we might as well sleep on the flat. As I say overall very disappointed and wouldn't justify the cost again of staying in such a dated premises.

Room Tip: Don't come unless you are completely able bodied

stayed here with my husband for a night. our room was very spacious and very dated and the staff were very friendly and helpful. I was disappointed that there were no tea and coffee making facilities in the room and the shower was not electric, so if i turned on the bath I scalded my husband in the shower, nor could we find an iron. Breakfast in the moring was lovely but they are good on their portion control!! overall, nice hotel but not worth the money.

Just spent 3 nights in the lap of luxury! The staff are so friendly & always willing to assist. ...All men are called 'John'..almost? Went on the Wilderness Hike with John ( driver John also) a fountain of knowledge, made the hike really interesting. The spa is well worth a visit & pool excellent for the swimmers. Our room, superior, had everything, with views to die for. Evening meal is an experiencef food delicious. And we had the pleasure of meeting John, Francis away!!

Room Tip: Ask for mountain & river view

The hotel is home away from home, felt very comfortable there. Not one piece of dust anywhere. Pure luxury. Staff extremely friendly (but not over the top) and helpful. Decour is old-fashioned but beautiful. Huge comfortable bed (superior room) and large sitting area with beautiful views. Did not have evening meal but was not too expensive (menu was a bit fancy for me - plain food eater). Breakfast was very nice, especially the black pudding from Sneem. Night time bar had staff member playing the piano, beautiful music in background giving a chance for chat. Did not use the spa area but large variety of services offered. Gardens also beautiful. Did not get to meet Francis Brennan (unfortunately), but will def return, well worth the amount paid (as a special treat)

Room Tip: Room 310 - great view

We spent two nights in this gorgeous town. The hotel is top tier. The rooms are spacious and luxurious. The entire place is spotless. The staff is friendly and efficient. One of our friends enjoyed the golf course. The head bartender has been there for 34 years-if you want to learn about whiskey be prepared to spend some quality time listening to him talk! The restaurant is fabulous as well, both for breakfast and dinner. You are across the street from the Main Street in Kensington and shopping is but a short walk.

We stayed here at the end of August during a swing of Western Ireland doing a drive of Dingle and Ring of Kerry. Both were stunning drives. Make sure you get off the beaten path and cut across the mountains... On to the hotel...
Room: Awesome. We had what I guess you can call a mini suite. Our sitting area looked right out over the garden.
Grounds and walking: Nice little park behind with some good, easy trails. The day we left they were having a hike from up the Kerry Way back down to the hotel. We would have loved it but we didn't have time nor boots. (If you plan to do much real walking or hiking you need proper boots).
Breakfast was average for Ireland - not bad, not great.
Staff: Very nice and helpful. They even washed our car's windshield the morning we left - a nice touch (but you should expect that for $500+ USD / night.
Pool: We took a swim in their awesome lap pool. You really have to check this out - a 25M long stainless steel pool.

Room Tip: Ask for one overlooking the garden.
