“Spacious accommodations, lovely hosts!”
Reviewed August 18, 2012

After numerous email communications and date changes, Sheila remained gracious and accommodating. After arriving into Kenmare from Kinsale, not realizing just how grueling a trip through the mountains after dark it would be and how long it would take, we were warmly welcomed by Sheila who had to stay up waiting for us! In spite of the late hour, she took the time to get us settled into our room and brought us ice and answered all our questions. The family room we rented was huge with 2 large armoires. The King bed was great, having only had queen size at every other B&B we had stayed. Everything was clean and beautiful and the bathroom had a nice big shower. Breakfast was served in a wonderful sunporch overlooking open fields. The food was fresh and delicious, with many choices, both hot & cold. Sheila and Sam were wonderful hosts, making us feel very much at home. After breakfast, they asked us all about our travel plans and helped us map out the best route to Dingle. We felt like we got to know them and their family a bit, which made it special. Forgefield house is outside of town in a quiet location, very convenient to Killarney and Dingle Peninsula. We wished we could have stayed another day. I would definitely return and highly recommend it to anyone who wants a good home base from which to explore Killarney, Ring of Kerry & Dingle Peninsula.

Room Tip: Family room with 1 king and 1 twin bed is huge with lots of storage.

We spent 2 nights at Forgefield House in July. While the property is situated a few minutes drive from town, the peaceful setting more than makes up for it and the views from the breakfast room are beautiful. We had two rooms, which were the biggest and most light filled of our entire 6 week trip. Sheila and Sam are lovely and can't do enough for you. The rooms are very well fitted out with everything you could need including hair dryer and bottled water. The heated towel rail was a real bonus! Sheila's dinner recommendations were excellent. We would not hesitate to stay here again and highly recommend this property for anyone visting Kenmare or as a base from driving the Ring of Kerry.

This is our thrid time at Forgefiled House, we like it so much. It is impecably clean, the hosts are most helpful and charming and do not know what to do to make your stay comfortable. The rooms are spacious, light and the setting quiet. What more can you ask. We just wish there were more B&B of the sort. Not to be missed.

I highly recommend Forgefield House.
Sheila and Sam are the most hospitable hosts, which started well before we arrived. I was having a hard time finding a place to stay around Galway and I asked Sheila for recommendations and she came through with excellent suggestions that led me to a nice bed and breakfast for our stay there. It only got better. After leaving Galway, halfway to Kenmare I realized I had misplaced the address to Forgefield House. We got to Kenmare probably half past 11 that night. I ran into a pub to ask for directions to Forgefield House. The bartender at O'Connors had no idea, but quickly passed the word around the pub. Fortune would have it that Sheila's and Sam's plumber was in the pub that night and he had directions. I sighed a huge relief as I returned to the car to inform my dubious wife and her equally dubious parents that I knew the way. We arrived at Forgefield House near midnight and Sheila and Sam were up, waiting for us, and not only that, we the weary and hungry travelers, were treated to a late night snack of tea and scones. A stressful ending was quickly turned into a warm welcome for our party of eight. We all slept soundly and sweetly that night.
The house is very clean, comfortable, and exquisitely decorated. We enjoyed our Irish breakfasts on the closed-in back porch. Sheila and Sam had great advice about what to see around Kenmare, and Sam had great tips for growing healthy, productive roses.
The location is perfect for early morning walks down to the scenic bridge and back. I wouldn't say it's in easy walking distance to the town, but town is a close, easy drive.
On our way out Sheila and Sam gave us maps and made sure we had the right route to our next destination in Tipperary.
Our travel party voted -- handsdown-- this as our best accommodation of the trip around the southwestern and southern coasts of Ireland.

A lovely, clean b & b set in beautiful countryside. Our hosts couldn't do enough for us. The town nearby had some nice shops and restaurants. All in all a great place to stay.

We stayed for a weekend in Forgefield House & loved every minute. The house is beautifully clean & spacious with really comfortable rooms. The settling is fantastic with gorgeous views from the conservatory. Breakfast was just delicious & most of all Shelia & Sam are the most gracious hosts - getting the balance just right between being friendly but not over whelming. Loved our stay & would definately return.

Warmly greeted by our hosts we knew we were in for a pleasant stay.Forgefield House is just delightful light, bright truly a home from home thanks to Sam and Sheila.Rooms of very high standards with great comfortable king sized bed had it not been for excellent breakfast-all freshly prepared-I may have had a few more zzz's. Slight walk to town but the added bonus is peace and quiet after a lively night out is worth it .If you are looking for a break in a stunning location, first class accommodation, great food and genuine hospitality look no further.
