I really enjoyed my stay at Forgefield House, Sheila and Sam were delightful hosts and they went out of their way to provide a holiday to remember. The house is furnished to a very high standard and I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Kenmare.

We learnt about the Forgefield House via the TripAdvisor. We had utilized both Rick Steve's tourbook and TripAdvisor to find suitable accommodation during our recent visit to Ireland. Needless to say, we had both good and bad experiences. The Forgefield House stood out as one of our most wholesome accommodation experiences for various reasons.
To begin with, the house itself is very charming, bright, immaculately clean with modern amenities (especially the powerful shower) as well as oodles of character. Our hostess and host were very welcoming and when we reached there that evening after a long drive, Sheila, our hostess offered us wonderful french-pressed coffee and shortbread biscuits that my daughter loved. We were also introduced to Casper, the shy but friendly dog. Both Sheila and Sam were treasure houses of information regarding not just their local area but rest of Ireland as well.
Their recommendations like the Beara Peninsula and the Animal petting farm were outstanding. The peninsula made its way easily to our top ten awesome sights list, while the petting farm was definitely the highlight of my daughter's trip. To add to this wonderful experience, was their delicious home cooked breakfast and our delightful conversations.

On my recent holiday in Ireland I had the good fortune to stay at Forgefield House on the recommendation of friends, and was not disappointed as it was all that and more than suggested. Lovely clean and spacious rooms and great location, just 2 miles from town which puts one in a country setting near the Kenmare river, delightful.
The hosts where terrific, happy to help in anyway, including driving one to the town and collecting for a return.
Would suggest that when in the Kenmare region, this is the only B&B to stay at.
Thank you Sheila and Sam.

Sam and Sheila are wonderful people and right from the moment we met them, I knew we made the right choice of a place in Kenmare. From previous communications, Sam and Sheila were aware of our needs for a room with our daughter and we had a splendid room with an extra bed and a great view over their green back yard and surroundings. Their home is practically new with a large dining/sitting area on the ground floor and a large deck area with tables and chairs. In the morning, we came through their kitchen area and picked up the cold food items on our way to our table and then Sam would come and take our hot breakfast order which could be customized and was always delicious. On several occasions, I would pop into the kitchen and just chat even while they were cooking because Sam and Sheila are so approachable and friendly. We never felt rushed in our time with them as they always seemed to have time for whatever need or question we had. Upstairs are most of the guest bedrooms. There is new hardwood floor throughout and all the furnishings and decorations are first rate. The bathroom was the nicest we had in our entire time in Ireland. Little extras like the warming towel rack and snacks make you feel special. The Forgefield House is about 2 kilometers from the center of Kenmare, but we looked at that as a good thing to be a little bit removed from the more congested areas. We walked in frequently either on the main road or a beautiful country lane that takes a little longer, but is so scenic. They have a huge car park compared to the first B+B on our trip. Overall, just a terrific experience. Meeting other guests was fun too. Another review listed here was from 'Peter' who also shared lots of tips with us for interesting things to do. On a serious note, Sheila and Sam were upset by a poor review listed here that really should not have been. We stayed with them for 5 nights and can attest that the people who gave the unflattering review DID NOT stay at the Forgefield House. Why would they leave a poor review then???? Anyway, I would HIGHLY recommend staying with Sam and Sheila on your visit to Kenmare. It is an excellent location and also a good home base for exploring the whole Southwestern part of Ireland.

Absolutely charming. Just a short distance outside Kenmare lays a pristine, welcoming B&B. From its meticulous modern clean rooms, lovely grounds only to be outdone by its gracious hosts Sheila and Sam who could not do enough to make our stay an absolute delight. As a foodie, I have to mention that breakfast here was the best in our 2 week vacation around Ireland. Our family of 5 stayed here in mid July and hopes to be back again. Thank you Sheila & Sam.

I would like to thanks to Sheila and Sam for wonderful 5x nights there. Without booking they friendly accept me at 21:30. Amazing calm place among green, yet 5minutes into busy centre of Kenmare. My room was very romantic with nice view to soothing green.
All incld. bathroom was cleaned on max level without any complain. And the best at the end, breakfast... I was on my way via Ireland finaly at 9x BaB, but better food´s, how was well prepared and serviced incld. room I did not find. Both are very friendly and pleasant.
Absolutely with my best conscience can recommend this place for everyone, who will want to visit Dursey Island, Gareen garden and other beatiful places near. Good luck ! Brgds Peter Kalla
