We recently spent two lovely nights here, having dinner in their gourmet restaurant each night. If you stay here, eat here. Don't bother driving back into town as you won't do better. The menu changes somewhat every night, always presenting something new with plenty of delicious choices for even the most picky diner.

The 16 rooms are well appointed, comfortable and easy to settle in. The staff is very courteous, happy to see you've arrived. The setting by Carrig Lake is completely gorgeous, even if drizzling, a common event in Ireland. They have provided many cubby hole rooms on the main floor in which you can sneak away for a card game, a private chat, or a quiet read. Serene music wafts through the rooms, providing a relaxing and inviting place to snuggle in for a few hours if you don't want to enjoy the view from your room.

The only negative thing I can think of is how they prepare you for dinner. They review the night's menu and wine list with you in one of the anti-rooms. That's fine as it removes the order taking from the three room restaurant that looks out onto the garden and lake. However when you are seated at your table, a server comes around with a tray of utensils, asking what you are having and providing the correct utensils for it. It works, but it feels odd. One would think they could not only know what each table has ordered, but which person has ordered what. It's a nit, but one which could be overcome.

Other than that, Carrig House and its hosts is absolutely wonderful and highly recommended for a stay in the Kilarney / Killorglin area. Having looked at the other four stair hotel down the road and also on the lake, this one feels more cozy while providing upscale luxury for the more well healed traveler.

Enjoy!

Carrig House was just what we were looking for, a place to recharge and relax in old-world country-house charm. The service is impeccable, the accommodation is beyond comfortable and the food is worth a visit alone. We were made to feel like special guests, as I'm sure was everyone else! Carrig House may become an annual treat...

As children we had spent many wonderful holidays at carrig house when it was privately owned. We returned this July to celebrate my parents 70th birthdays - 3 generations together. Frank, Mary and the team made us feel very welcome - like coming home. The weather was stunning with swimming and fishing in the lake, picnics on the pier, gourmet dinners and drinks on the lawn it was an unforgettable 3 days. Frank and Mary have managed to create the perfect country house experience with that touch of home feel but as much luxury as you could want in the splendid rooms . We will be back if you will have us ....

Room Tip: My parents stayed in the fabulous presidential suite with a huge drawing room overlooking the lake is very special. We had a lovely room in the new wing with private patio and garden access which I would happily stay in again.

We had dinner here one night and it was excellent with stunning views of the lake. This is a genuine Irish owned property with typical Irish hospitality. We both wished we had stayed at this gracious hotel instead of the place just two miles away! Next time we are in Ireland, we will be staying at Carrig Country House!

Room Tip: We only had dinner here but viewed three of the rooms and they all looked fabulous with great views of the lake. Very good value we think and will stay here next time.

Chose Carrig Bay for a three night stay on the "Ring of Kerry". very well appointed room with a fantastic view over the Lake. The dinners were excellent, michelin standard without being michelin prices. Owner managed so excellent customer service. Many trips and activities can be booked through the hotel. I went trout fishing on the Lake with Dan the local Ghillie, an experience in itself

Room Tip: ask for a lake view
