The Shores Country House
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed June 25, 2012

We visited Ireland during off-season in March, just before Saint Patrick's Day, so many B&Bs had not opened for the season yet. In fact, we were fortunate enough to change plans during our trip, based on local recommendations. At a B&B in Kinsale, the owner recommended we drive through the Ring of Kerry and head out to the Dingle Peninsula and specifically recommended we stay at The Shores Country House.

We sure are glad that we took her recommendation! While we arrived in the evening after a long day's drive and were starving, Annette was ready for our arrival and swiftly helped us to our room and made reservations for dinner at Spillane's Bar & Restaurant (which I also recommend for the stunning views at sunset and the mussels steamed in milk--amazing! Again, since it was off-season, we had the opportunity to sit at the bar and talk to the owner for a few hours!)

The Shores Country House room decor was Victorian--right up my alley. The room was beautiful and the bed was quite comfortable with a heavy comforter (thankfully, since nights are very cool in March). We had exquisite views of the ocean coupled with the cow and sheep farm pastures from our window, which was an added bonus.

The very best part about staying at the Shores Country House though was the breakfast--the best I had in Ireland! My husband and I were absolutely impressed with the Irish brown bread, the porridge, and this breakfast sandwich my husband had was amazing!

I hope we get to return to the Shores Country House again!

Stayed at the Shores and it was the most excellent place we stayed in all of Ireland. My husband and I stayed at Park Hotel in Kenmare, which is supposed to be one of the "best" hotels in Ireland. The Shores B&B was MUCH better than the famed "5 star hotel". The Shores is SOOO clean, spacious, beautiful views, and warm views through out the house. Beds are plush and comfortable, nice thick comforters and crispy clean bathrooms. Annette is an amazing host and I would highly recommend staying with her.

During a recent visit to the Dingle peninsula my girlfriend and I spent 2 nights at The Shores B&B. From the moment we arrived to the second we left our every need was looked after.

When we arrived we were greeted by Josie. Her charming, friendly and down to earth manner made us feel right at home after only stepping foot inside the front door.
Josie’s welcome and the elegance of the room quickly confirmed the exceptionally high quality and attention to detail that goes into every aspect of The Shores experience.

We meet Annette a short time later as we headed out for a meal after getting settled into the room. She was friendly and helpful as we chatted and took time to go through the breakfast menu with us so that we could have our breakfast order ready for us in the morning. During our visit she showed all the qualities of a great hostess and showed pride in her home and the service level given to each customer.

The room we were assigned was beautiful, my girlfriend asked me to find a place with a sea view and on opening the door leading to the balcony I earned a copious amount of brownie points.
We had the Balcony room and it was well appointed and lavishly decorated and a substantial size. The large and very comfortable king sized bed did not seem out of proportion in the room and standing in one corner was a beautiful old fashioned ladies vanity dressing table with mirror. My girlfriend enjoyed having the option to use this dressing table as it reminded her of one her grand mother once had.

Breakfast each morning was a delightful event, the food and the presentation was first class, we both really enjoyed our dishes which fuelled us up for the day. Once again the service at breakfast was friendly and efficient, top-ups and additional items were offered when needed and the friendly atmosphere continued.

My girlfriend enjoyed one of the cakes served at breakfast and asked Josie if she could have the recipe. Annette was more than happy to share it.

We had a delightful time and would not hesitate to return.

The Shores is a beautiful property overlooking the coast near Castlegregory. The rooms were clean, comfortable and provided quiet comfort after a long day of driving. A nice walk down the road takes you to a road down to "the strand" of beach where you can enjoy a nice stroll or go surfing if you're into that. Breakfast was fabulous and the hosts were very gracious and accommodating.

Such a warm welcome to the blissful Shores Country House by the lovely Annette and Josie. This B&B is out of this world, with the decor and attention to detail second to none. Absolute luxury. The breakfast was delishious. The love and care that goes into the cooking shows in the amazing presentation of each dish.
Location is ideal, situated on the Conor Pass approximately 30mins from Dingle, overlooking Mt Brandon and the bay. Such a peaceful and beautiful setting.
We will definitely be back for another break soon.

We stayed in the front bedroom with a large picture window view of the ocean. The furniture, bedding and knick knacks were stunning and immaculate. Breakfast was the best. This B and B has unique decor, lots of beautiful details and made us feel like we were in another world. It was first rate in every detail. Annette, the owner, and Josie, her assistant, were friendly, helpful and a joy each morning.

Room Tip: Stay on the first floor room next to the front door. It's a very quiet B and B so being by the...
