The food was excellent.
I had heard a lot of good things about this restaurant in advance so was delighted to get a table for five of us while on a recent holiday in the area. We had a few issues unfortunately, which took from what could have been a lovely evening. I would advise asking, when booking, for a table on the ground floor. Don't expect the service to be great. Do expect excellent food!
We were put at a table upstairs, which had insufficient headroom. My nephew banged his head several times off the angled ceiling. An error with the order for another table meant we got our starters within minutes of ordering, with no drinks on the table.
The starter courses were excellent. The quality is similar to that in some of the top restaurants in Dublin / London / New York!
The service really let the place down, for us. The waitresses themselves were lovely people, nice and friendly - but they really had no interest in serving tables. We waited more than 20 minutes for our finished dinner plates to be removed and waited another 25+ minutes before having to ask for a dessert menu, although we just wanted to leave by then. We also asked several times for the very loud music to be turned down, which eventually was - suitable for the young staff, but not for the mature clientele. The restaurant has a lovely oldie worldie, atmosphere. It has so much potential, if it had the correct front of house staff. Did I mention, the food was excellent?!
I would like to go here again, but will be sure to get a better table, in the eye-line of staff!
Go for the food and you won't be disappointed. Very high marks for chef and kitchen staff. Sorry you were let down by front of house.
