When we found them first, it was by chance as Sligo town hostels were booked out. We meant to stay for one night - after half a day spent there, we cancelled a booking in another place and stayed with Mary and Craig for three days.
Last week was our third visit and not much changed - only the banter gets better and better. At this stage it feels like a second home.

They are tricky to find (but they will email you a detailed map with driving instructions) - if you think you got lost, drive for another five minutes and you'd find them, on the side of Lough Arrow, where the only sounds will be sparrows arguing (in July) or ice cracking (in January). The area is stunning, with megalithic tombs and beautiful abbey ruins a short drive/walk away. But if it's the party you want, just get your supplies and there's an old bar-turned-common-room for your pleasure. This is definitely the best common room I've ever seen in any hostel I stayed in. If you don't drive, Mary or Craig can pick you up from Boyle train/bus station. Even without a car the area has enough to offer to keep you occupied.

The place used to be a hotel and it still has a hotely feel to it, with huge kitchen, big dining are anc sofas around an open fireplace. There are rooms to suit all purposes, from cosy doubles to equally cosy dorms and the owners would go out of their way to make your stay special.

Can't recommend them enough, you need to experience the beauty of the area snd Mary and Craig's hospitality yourself!

it's been just over 2 months now since we were lucky enough to stay at arrowrock hostel. going there for a 2 night peacefull rest, before going to dublin, we found just what we were needing and more. even though the hostel was sadly hit by irelands frosty winter, the owners, craig and mary, have done an exquisite job of repairing the damage. freshly painted, new carpets, lighting fixtures and while we were leaving, new drapes for the dinning room.
i could go on about the tranquilty here, as the hostel is right across from a lake, allowing boat rental, fishing or just a peacefull walk. there is also a ruin of an abbey just 2miles down the lake road, and a crannog on the lake.
our double bed room was a great size, with a window overlooking the water. a very comfy bed and linen and warm room to snuggle in after a day of walking. the bathroom was great and had hot water in good supply.
the kitchen facilities are fantastic. and to make this place all the better, it is run by to lovely charactors, craig and mary. they will make you feel like you have known them for years.
so if it is a peacefull restful, and quiet stay in some of irelands beautiful lake district, stay here. the town of boyle isn't far from the hostel and there are great ruins of a abbey there. also sligo is known for it's prehistoric ruins, from caves to cairns, megaliths and sacred hills, are all just a scenic drive away.
we will be back for sure.

In general, it was a pleasant stay in this hostel. The room we have is well-equipped. Comfortable shower and beds released my whole-day driving tiredness. Most importantly, because we are student travelers, we have budget concern and this hostel provides a very attractive price for a lakeside accommodation.
The owner is also very helpful. He provided us plenty of information about where to go. Carrowkeel, a prehistory tomb site, is a must-go place. The owner will tell you how to go!

Arrowrock Hostel is spacious and clean with comfortable bedrooms and great facilities. Set within stunning countryside and historical sights there's always lots to do or just enjoy the peace beside the lough or the gardens. The town of Boyle is only 10 minutes drive away to go for a meal, drink or stock up on supplies. The megolithic tombs are a must to see to touch history and view the countryside from high up. Mary and Craig who own the hostel are so friendly and keen to help you enjoy the surroundings. I'm looking forward to my next stay.

This is a wonderfully warm place which oozes peace and tranquility. Set amongst stunning scenery, this hostel gives you what you'd hope for - friendly welcome, engaging hosts, interesting place to stay deep in the Sligo countryside and a really relaxing vibe. Great for an "away from it all" kind of holiday in an area rich in historical interest, yet within 10 mins drive of most amenities. An ideal place to reconnect with nature (and your inner self, if you're into that sort of thing). Can't wait to return ....... it's a little piece of heaven (especially for stressed out middle aged executives!!!).

My husband and I stayed here last weekend as we were attending a wedding nearby. The owner, Mary, collected us at the train station which was great. The place was undergoing building work at the time so was quite messy but our room was fine. We were warned prior to our arrival that the work was unfinished.
Bedroom and bathroom clean and warm with a lovely view of the lake.
To make up for the unfinshed work in the main parts of the hostel, Mary also drove us to the church which was much appreciated.
When we returned at 3am, the place was transformed! There is a lovely cosy living area, a large kitchen and a large dining area over looking the lake.
At €50 per night in march, it is a great value option and one I would recommend.

My mom and I stayed at the Arrowrock Hostel a few weeks ago. The owner was very friendly and even greeted us at the car to help us in with our luggage. We had a little bit of trouble finding the place and Craig was very patient with us. The hostel has a huge kitchen, several great sitting areas, and a beautiful view of the lake and countryside. We stayed only one night in a private room and it felt like a hotel stay! The shower was excellent and they even provided towels free of charge! And as an added bonus there was free Wi-Fi available and you were able to get it in your room. If you don't have a computer, there is one at the front desk you can also use. Craig was also helpful with giving us directions to a nearby eatery and a map to the ancient ruins of Carrowkeel, which you can actually see in the distance from the hostel!. All around, 2 thumbs up!
