“Rheingau Riesling at its Best”

Weingut Robert Weil
Ranked #1 of 2 things to do in Kiedrich
Attraction details

Away from the tourist traffic along the Rhein is the small town of Kiedrich, about 15km west of Wiesbaden. Although there are several wineries in this picturesque town showing off the wonderful offerings of this famous wine-making region, I come back frequently to visit Weingut Robert Weil. Their wines consistently score high marks from international wine publications, with good reason. The dry (trocken) Rieslings are my favorite.

The winery manor house sits on a beautiful park area, with a new modern upgrade to their vinothek. I have always found the staff here very helpful in describing the latest vintages, allowing complimentary tastings of all but their most expensive wines. Bring cash (or Euro e-cash cards), no credit cards accepted. They will gladly pack your wine cases secure for airline travel, I have brought back at least 4 cases to the US with no damage.

If your going near Eberbach it’s a nice winery showroom to stop by. Hidden in the little town of Kiedrich, a cute and far less touristy version of a wine town along the Rhine (unlike Rudesheim). Nice church and half timbered homes. The wine studio itself is a lovely mix of modern in an otherwise historical complex. Staff were very helpful. Its not a wine tour but if your making your own by tasting a few things here and there buying a few bottles everywhere you go it makes a nice stop. N.B. the do not accept credit card, I would also argue that the wine at Eberbach is a better value so don't stop here first and spend your whole budget

Although I have been a great fan of their Riesling for many years, I was very disappointed with their 2011 wines. Even to my surprise, we left the wine tasting with only a case of their 2010 CHARTA Riesling.

Once in a while we use to visit Robert Weil to buy some wine.
Last time we went with friends who came to see us from abroad.
We wanted to start our tour through the Rheingau at Robert Weil as for us it is the best vineyard in the area.
The staff is very friendly and you can taste every wine you want except for the Beerenauslesen.
Year 2010 is excellent. I can recomment the Charta and the sweet Kabinett!
Next week some more friends will come over to visit us and we will for sure take them to Robert Weil again.
