Away from the tourist traffic along the Rhein is the small town of Kiedrich, about 15km west of Wiesbaden. Although there are several wineries in this picturesque town showing off the wonderful offerings of this famous wine-making region, I come back frequently to visit Weingut Robert Weil. Their wines consistently score high marks from international wine publications, with good reason. The dry (trocken) Rieslings are my favorite.
The winery manor house sits on a beautiful park area, with a new modern upgrade to their vinothek. I have always found the staff here very helpful in describing the latest vintages, allowing complimentary tastings of all but their most expensive wines. Bring cash (or Euro e-cash cards), no credit cards accepted. They will gladly pack your wine cases secure for airline travel, I have brought back at least 4 cases to the US with no damage.
