Huvafen Fushi Maldives

More like living the dream. Stayed here for a couple of days in a Deluxe Beach Bungalow. Our speedboat ride was certainly bumpy but our greeting from Parvis and staff was smooth as was my farwell by Armjad & Ang.
Although the resort was running at 87% full you felt like you were the only one there. So if you don't relax well no one on the island is too blame.
The house reef snokeling was just like swimming in a tropical fish tank. Can't believe the wonderful aquatic life below. Tina the Marine Biologist was truly informative at Stingray feeding hour. Have a new appriciation for these creatures.
Ate at all the restaurants and the presentation didn't hide the flavours or the taste of all the wonderful foods. The food all round was first class and did not feel I paid anymore than I do at any highend restaurant in Melbourne.
Staff were all very friendly to me and also available anytime. Always nice when the barman remembers your drink.
As for the room they are true to thr brouchure. Very hard decission to make leave the room enjoy the facilities or stay in your room and enjoy. The loaded ipod was like icing on the cake. i would book a deluxe beach bunglow again as it was very private and close to everything.
Although expensive I feel this helps keep the exclusivity.
Make space I will be back .

Room Tip: Bungalow 17

I had to just give HF 4 stars, not 5, since we loved another resort in the Maldives quite a bit better on this same journey from the USA. However, it's like comparing apples to oranges: both were completely different styles. Huvafen was awesome and has a smaller, more private feel, which we generally prefer. We stayed in a room that walks right out onto the beach. It also had a plunge pool (with no view) in our bathroom. If you're looking for a room to blow you away, there is one here with a full size pool in the room and it has a beach view. A couple who got married were in it during our visit. Food and service were great--we tried all the options. We didn't feel our butler added anything to the stay. The spa was awesome and we visited just about every day. We typically stay at just one resort if we're lucky enough to get away for two weeks. However, we split this trip to the Maldives between HF and Soneva Gili for a week each and were glad we got to experience both. In the Maldives there is typically one resort per island and each island is relatively small so a week was enough for us here at each locale. The only reason for four stars vs. five, is that it didn't blow us away in any sense. If you have limited mobility for any reason and don't want to have to go far for anything, you'd enjoy Huvafen more than Soneva Gili though. It does have a mix of all the right stuff. Very comfortable bedroom with great air conditioning.

We stayed at Huvafen for 5 nights as part of our honeymoon in June, after a 7 night stay in the new Six Senses island of Laamu. I have to say, before arriving, I was much more excited about Huvafen after reading all of the hype about it on Trip Advisor however, Laamu was a million times better than Huvafen in every respect, which has prompted me to write this report.

Huvafen was hugely disappointing. I believe that quality service comes from the top and the General Manager at Huvafen barely acknowledged us, let alone knew our names. The food was below average (especially breakfast) and, if you chose not to dine in the main restaurant (and you wouldn't really want to as at times it felt overcrowded and it seriously lacked variety on a daily basis) you only got a 25% discount at the other restaurants. The BBQ evening we attended was terrible - the medium steak we ordered was blue and inedible, along with the rest of the buffet. The free "honeymoon dinner" (which is not actually free if you are half board and, is in fact better not to have as the al a carte menu offers at least some variety) was very average and served around the pool - hardly the most romantic setting! Service at the restaurants was poor - if the waiters were not acting pretentiously, they were getting orders wrong. Finally, our "honeymoon" villa was right next to the jetty and not private in the slightest with boats arriving and leaving frequently throughout the day.

By comparison, were really made to feel special at Laamu from the second we were greeted off the boat to the moment we left (at 6am in the morning being waved off by numerous staff). Our overwater bungalow was very private at the end of the jetty. The food was superb and you never feel as though you are eating with more than a few other couples. The food variety (especially at breakfast - there's an extensive smoothie menu, fruit chopping station and an awesome cheese/cold meat room) was fantastic and, if you choose not to eat in one of the two al a carte restaurants, you have a US$75 pp food credit to use against room service or, for example, private sandbank dining.

The Senior Director of Sales and Marketing at Huvafen described the difference between Laamu and Huvafen as being Robinson Crusoe meets James Bond. Robinson Crusoe meets "Footballler's wives" is probably a more accurate description, unless of course you view James Bond as a chav. Huvafen lacked sophistication and imagination and was no different from any other boutique resort that you might visit in Asia (other than in other resorts you feel like a valued guest rather than part of the head count) and, in my opinion, really needs a massive shake up to claim one of the top spots in the Maldives.

If you want to spend an unnecessary amount of money to tell your friends that you've stayed at Huvafen then go for it but, if you want a special honeymoon experience at an island which offers something more than the average, I would highly recommend going elsewhere.

Highlight:
1. There's no reception. You each have your own housekeeper on your speed-dail. You cant help but to tip them generously for their 6-star service.

2. RAW restaurant: nothing is cooked there incl the pizza. It's a spirit-lifting culinary experience.

3. Under-sea spa: if you don't hv the budget to stay in the under-sea hotel Poseidon in Fiji, you can't miss out on this one. The massage is world-class too.

4. The dive: you will be pleased if you are a shark-lover. I swam with 7-8 sharks and even saw a baby shark near the beach.

5. The design: its a dream land straight off Harpers Bazaar or Vogue. It's beyond words...

6. Private yet welcoming and socialable: staffs throw frequent cocktail gatherings and performance. Everyone just absolutely love what they do and they are damn good at making sure you get the A-list treatment you deserve.

It's no surprise that huvafen Fushi is the most frequent destination in Maldives by celebs. I spent the best vaca there. It's not even abt the spa, the design, and the food; it's the service and people that make your the most magical you could imagine...

We had been looking forward to visiting Huvafen Fushi since we originally booked our honeymoon around 18 months ago - and our stay didn't disappoint!

The island was jaw-droppingly beautiful from the minute you arrive. The transfer from the airport was extremely efficient with the speedboat ride being thrilling if somewhat a little hairy at times.

Upon arrival we were greeted by Parvis who welcomed us to the resort. We were then taken to our Ocean Bungalow which was sensational!

We did several of the island experiences including two Destination Dining experiences and although a little pricy have given us memories to last a lifetime....

Overall we would highly recommend Huvafen Fushi and definitely aim to return again in the future.... Meanwhile we have very fond memories and some beautiful photographs.

We researched many resorts while planning our trip to the Maldives and were looking for somewhere with not too many villas but also with a good amount of restaurant choice and activities. The Goldilocks of resorts, not too big, not too small. Huvafen Fushi met all these requirements and we were very happy with our decision to stay there.

We stayed 5 nights in an Ocean Villa in late June. Amazing view of the Indian Ocean from our private deck, not a single thing on the horizon, just an expanse of blue water as far as the eye could see.

The water activities were great. We went jet skiing almost every day and were impressed with the professional service. A boat went out through the reef with us each time and stood by out there while we enjoyed ourselves. The SeaBob was a fun new activity and went big game fishing on two mornings. A private snorkeling trip via speedboat to a nearby reef was also a highlight.

We ate at both Salt and Raw a couple of times and were impressed with the quality of the food. We had a private dinner on a rock ‘island’ and also a special in-villa dining experience with the chef cooking the food right there on the villa deck.
Most nights we had drinks at UMBar, a nice way to wind down before and after dinner in laidback surroundings.

We booked two sessions in the underwater spa, felt like we were in a 1970’s James Bond movie while descending the stairs to the treatment rooms, but the décor worked for the setting.

On the second to last day we decided to book a private charter Seaplane to take us back to Male. Our Thakuru made all the bookings and on the day of departure we just had to walk 100 meters from the villa to the beach where they pulled the plane up. A very special way to depart a very special place.

Any place can have its faults but I believe the best gauge of how well they performed is by how much you want to return once you leave. In this case we haven’t stopped dreaming about it and can’t wait to return.

Room Tip: We felt the Ocean Villa was probably worth the extra money

My husband and I stayed here for seven nights in an ocean bungalow. It was our first time to the Maldives and the second hotel of our trip. While planning the trip we contemplated whether it was worth it to pay more for an ocean side bungalow rather than the lagoon side. Boy were we happy that we picked the ocean side. The best part about staying on the ocean side is the incredible snorkeling right under your bungalow which does not exist on the lagoon side. There is a great house reef near the main pool area but we enjoyed the convenience of what we had right in our own backyard! If snorkeling is your thing then book an ocean bungalow. Even though the hotel was fully booked we didn't see tons of people during the day. We loved the huge infinity pool and the heron that would wade in the water next to us under the shade of the umbrella. They offered an array of activities each day and special dinners to choose from throughout the week. Our favorite dinners were the Japanese tasting dinner at Raw, the Infinity Champagne and Lobster night, and a private dinner cruise on a luxury dhoni. We enjoyed eating at the restaurant Raw for lunch. It had an intimate setting over the water with beautiful views and healthy but tasty food options. Courses were small so you could have a few and enjoy a long relaxing lunch on the water. For dinner we loved Salt. Again, set on the water right next to Raw. The food they served here was as good as any high end restaurant in Chicago. Presentation was inventive and the flavors were outstanding. As far as activities, they have it all. We did a half day of deep sea fishing. When we returned they cooked the fish we caught and served it for our lunch at Folgliani's (the outdoor lunch restaurant located next to the beach). We also did a snorkeling outing on one of the dhoni's where they took us to a couple of nearby reefs. We actually saw a manta ray and got to snorkel with it for a while. This was a surprise considering it was the end of manta ray season and the guide said we probably wouldn't see any. The underwater spa blew us away. We are not really spa people but once we saw the underwater treatment room, we immediately booked an appointment. We also enjoyed the champagne with the marine biologist in the spa at night. They turned off all of the lights so you could see what the corals looked like in the dark and under special lighting. To sum it up, Huvafen Fushi is a true five star luxury resort in a beautiful location with great snorkeling and amazing food. Everything they offered was top notch. The service could not be faulted. It was perfect. We will dream about this place forever!

Room Tip: book an ocean bungalow for amazing snorkeling
