“Perfect stop off before flying home”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 17, 2009

I had low expectations of this hotel after reading the reviews, but it is absolutely perfect for what we needed it for. We left our island in the afternoon then had a long wait before our flight home, so we had a day room here. We had time for a shower and some food before travelling on. The food was a buffet $25 each and it was very nice. If you are going for any longer than a night or two then this probably isn't the place to go, but it was perfect for our purposes.

I read the other reviews before booking a day room at the Hulhule Island Hotel and expected the worst. We arrived at 9:30 am and were given a day room at 10 am. No hassles.

Our room was #166 - in the new section of the hotel. This room was on the ground floor with floor to ceiling windows, a patio and access to the sandy beach. The room was extremely clean with new furnishings. The bathroom boasted glass tiles and amenities such as a razor and shaving cream, shower cap, and toiletries.

After traveling from Dubai in the middle of the night, we really needed to rest and relax. The bed was new, the pillows extremely firm (the way we like them), and the room was silent. Best bet to catch a five-hour nap before departing on the rest of our trip in the Maldives.

If you ask for a day room, realize that they ususally don't check guests in until 2 pm. We made a special request since we arrived so early and were leaving at 3:30 pm to catch our water taxi to our final destination. I also booked our room online through their website. I was a bit worried since I never received a confirmation from them before we left on our vacation, but they had our room ready when we arrived.

The Hulhule is ideal if you are in Male on business or need a room for the night close to the airport at the start of end of your vacation. It is not a resort hotel and does not purport to be one, though it does have a good swimming pool and small beach (swept daily). I stayed there five nights on business - the service was excellent throughout. My one criticism is that IDD phone rates are the most expensive I have come across - USD30 for four minutes!

Spent a night here on night of arrival before transit to resort in the morning. Location is excellent, only a short drive from the airport, prob 2 mins. Hotel provides shutter.
Service was quite horrible. The reception didn't look friendly and trust me, not too helpful as well. Messed up our booking. Was told by front desk there was no reservation under my name. At 11pm local time, which was early morning my country time, it didn't seem very funny. Their didn't seem apologetic at all. After long minutes of sorting out, finally told me they missed out my booking, which was also why my name wasn't stated in the list at the airport.
Room is small but acceptable but didn't feel clean. Floor was sticky, I had to wear my shoes around and dusty too. I sneezed non stop the moment I walked in.
We were given a room in the old wing, on the 2nd floor. The next morning when on the way to check out, the lift broke down. With a 25kg luggage, it was possibly the worse way to start the day. Fortunately, found the cargo/staff lift located behind a door next to the main lift.
Breakfast was very simple and not appetizing.
As what the other 2 had said, it's a necessary evil,

We stayed at this hotel (after Veligandu) because our flight back (Emirates) was at 2.30 in the morning.
Check in was - against our expectations - quick and friendly. We got Room No. 106 - ground floor (old part of the hotel) with "lovely" view to the reception. The room was small, smelly and the air con was loud and drafty. It was also noisy outside our room because the guests of all floors are "rolling by" with their suitcases at any day- and nighttime.
We ate dinner at the pool bar (no other restaurant near - only at the airport) - food was ok but we had to defend our food & beer against the flies.
The beach area is ok with sunloungers in front of the bricked beach.
In the evening you'll have a nice view to Male.
The free shuttle bus to the airport is ready any time you'll need it. Transport time to the airport about 3 minutes.

IHad an opportunity to stay in the Hulhule Island resort in Male for a couple of nights. The location of this resort, right nextto the airport, is really conveneinet and the hotel has free ferry service to the main Male island. The rooms had an amazing view of the blue sea. The restaurant at the top also offered a great view. However the food was average. The rooms were a trifle small ( we were two of us in a twin room ) and the service was average. Even the wi-fi and the plug points near the reception wasnt working properly. Neverthless the ambience was awesome , having a lazy drink next to th epool with the sea just behind you was an unforgettable experience. Would love to come back to this hotel with family some day.

We booked a day-room so that we could spend the time between the last sea-plane and before check-in to our Emirates flight at 23:30 in comfort.

We arrived back at Male airport after our time on Angaga and when the driver of the seaplane transfer bus realised we were going to the Hulhule he just told us to sit tight and he would take us since the transfer bus was not there. Although from our past experiences we never had to wait more than 5 minutes for the Hulhule bus to arrive.

Check-in was fast and efficient. The staff were not overly friendly but certainly not rude the way other reviews have suggested.

We were in a Deluxe room altough I am sure that I had only paid for a Superior. This gave us a view of the beach and the sea beyond and on this occaison a large cargo ship. The room was very clean and reasonably spacious. The bathroom was also very clean and had all the toiletries we required which meant we did not need to fish them out of our bags.

After checking-in and getting to our room, our plan was to go to Champs bar so my OH could get a footie fix however it does not now open till 18:00. When we did get into Champs , we had a few drinks and something to eat. ( & watched some footie not sure who though ). Then a nap and a shower in the room before checking out and transfering back to the airport and a sad goodbye to the Maldives

The hotel seemed quieter than on previous visits but I think makes those last few hours a lot more bearable than hanging about at the airport
