“Poor value for high cost”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 27, 2014

Having been to hotels in 160 countries, this is probably the worst value for the cost. There was no shuttle ,I walked to the hotel in 90 degree heat. No room/maid service on my 2nd day. TV inop. Broken handle on TV console/desk. Rotting wood on balcony rail. Peeling paint on wood and window frames, curtains askew- and this was the deluxe room that they gave me as an upgrade due to the lack of shuttle even though I had informed them of my arrival time as they had requested. I could have been so nice as there are some positive aspects of this hotel. Excellent Breakfast Buffet, Nice pool and small beach and the water taxi to Male City. Linens and beds are of high quality, but I can not justify $709. USD for a 2 night stay.

Room Tip: Do not bother with Deluxe because it may not be deluxe

We had the misfortune of needing to wait 6 hours for check in to open and didn't want to go to the main island late at night. Just for the privilege of sitting in the non air conditioned lobby here costs $7 per hour (each). We made the mistake of begin stung $80 odd dollars each for use of facilities and dinner and luggage storage.
Showers were dirty, bar was closed, food in restaurant was awful, service even worse.
Cheap plastic statues of food and words were stuck about like a bad disney trip.
We ate but wished we had waited until the lounge at Male airport as even their snacks were a la carte compared to this drivel. It is real 1980's dated nastiness.
Avoid at all costs.

Room Tip: I don't honestly believe there are any good rooms. And prices range from £300 to £1000 a night...

If this hotel was less than $50, I might have given it 4 stars but we paid close to $300 for one night and it just wasn't worth it.

Disliked:
- The room was old and worn out. If the hotel was cheap, I wouldn't complain but for $300 a night, I'd expect a lot more, I'd even expect a bit of luxury. The air-conditioner leaked and blew cold air all over our faces every ten minutes even though we adjusted the air flow to blow downwards only.
- Baby cot (danger hazard so we didn't let our 16 month old use it, waste of US$8 we paid for booking it). Some of the side rails were missing, if our baby was younger, his head might have fit through the gap. The mattress was super lumpy. And the cot was squeaky. It would be better if the hotel did not provide a cot at all.
- Only one towel was provided in the bathroom. I know it's just a phone call to get another one but at 12am in the morning, the last thing you want to do is wait for a bath towel. If the room is booked for two adults and a child, I'd expect three towels but would be understanding if only two was provided. Just don't understand why there'd only be one.

Liked:
- Breakfast was surprisingly decent. And it felt like we had walked into another hotel when we walked into the breakfast room.
- Housekeeping were quick to bring amenities when I requested them.
- Proximity to the airport. We were deciding between Traders Hotel and this one. We only chose this airport hotel because we were arriving late at night with a baby and didn't want to catch a boat to the main island and then catch another car to the hotel.

This is an airport hotel. Don’t expect anything else. Due to flight times we had to spend 1 night in this hotel.

Pros
Very close to airport although jet noise not too bad
Good shuttle service to and from airport
Rooms clean, spacious and tidy
Efficient check in and out
Only place outside a resort you can get a drink

Cons
VERY, VERY UNCOMFORTABLE BEDS. The most uncomfortable mattress I have ever slept on
Shower head broken 50% of spray projected outwards not down
Expensive

There is no competition on this island for the airport business so no pressure on hotel to improve or compete. Ultimately you have no choice if you have a late or early take off.

Although not likely what you were coming to the beautiful Maldives to experience, the Hulhule Island Resort is still top notch..for what it is!The rooms are very pleasant, clean,up to date & all face away from the runway(quieter). They all appear to have a gorgeous view of the pristine water and the great sunsets. There is superlative food in a number of venues including a top notch albeit pricey main dining room with a great view; the bar at both the pool & at the pub is fun & hopping most days & nights. There is a quaint little beach & some pretty neat snorkeling right out front. The staff is pleasant, helpful & very patient & accommodating. There is always a lot of international flight crews & young folks coming & going so it remains vibrant & fun. No it's not one of the romantic get-away island retreat you might expect here but dont sell it short!

Room Tip: Have "that chat" with the front desk & then be patient & watch them do their magic...

I spent 3 weeks in this hotel while on business in the Maldives. The staff and management are very professional and helpful. They go out of their way to make your stay pleasant. The hotel is located 5 minutes from the airport (MLE) and is easy to get to. The place is clean and the restaurants offer a nice selection, it's the only place outside of the resorts where you can have alcohol with dinner. The price is dependent on the season and at over $300.00 a night you would think they would include internet at no cost. If you want to pay for it, you are looking at almost $150.00 USD per week. You can use the free internet in the lobby and at Furu coffee house but there are so many people using it, that during normal business hours, you will be luck to get connected.

The planes taking off and landing at MLE can be bothersome but you get use to it quickly. I stayed in the Deluxe wing and was very satisfied. I had a room with a balcony that looked out to the Ocean. The beach is kept clean and they offer bar service.

Over all, I would not hesitate to stay at HIH again if future business takes me to the Maldives.

I give this hotel a 4 only because the internet cost was ridicules.

Room Tip: Stay in the deluxe wing if possible. If you need the internet and don't want to pay for it, plan...

Well my husband and I arrived on a late flight and it was too dark to catch the sea plane to another island, so we had to stay some where. The shuttle bus to the hotel was around the corner FOC, every 5 - 10 mins. The lady at the reception gave a warm welcome with a smile and was very helpful, she asked if we are gg to another island, and help checked with the hotel what time we should be waiting at the seaplane, and what time we should be checking out. We have selected this hotel because we thought that the ferries to the main island also ended. But when we arrive that day and asked the locals we found out that it's running 24hrs. If an advance planning is carried out you can avoid spent extra money at this hotel as you can go to a near by motel on malé and catch the seaplane/ speedboat to the resort island the next day.
